    Default Infinity or Legacy Audio

I don't know what to do...

I am interested in buying a pair of Legacy Signature III but have not heard them yet as they are a couple of hours away. I have heard their bigger brother Focus 2020s and did like them, but those were a bit more and now no longer available.

I currently have a fair selection of speakers that either need rebuilt or that I am looking to sell. The one set that I am unsure about is a very nice set of Infinity Kappa 8s. The only issue is crossover related. The front tweeter on one does not play. It does work and the issue is somewhere in the crossover. I temporarily switched the rear and and front tweeters so that I could actuall hear the set with front tweeters palying and they do sound good. I am not sure of the difference between the front and rear tweeters...crossover point, level...

So my dilemma: Do I pass on the Legacy Sigs and focus on getting the Kappas playing 100%, or buy the Legacy Sigs and sell the Kappas as is, or buy the Legacy Sigs and keep the Kappas and hope the wife doesn't find out?

Not sure i understand the post. I "assume" you already have the Infinity Kappa's.....you took the back tweeter put it in the front..now the front tweeter works...why would you think the cross-over has a problem, rather then just a front blown tweeter???

Sorry if I was not clear. I do own the Kappa8s already. Both tweeters are ok but I don't get anything from thefront tweeter. I actually switched the wiring back to fron and fron to back so that the signal that would go to the rear tweeter is actually coming from the front baffle now and there is no output to he rear tweeter.

I agree! It would be very very hard for me to let go of Kappa's!

I would follow the cable all the way down to the X over from the speaker that dose not work. If the back tweeter works an the front dose not..not sure it's the X over. You could have cable problem..not an X over problem

These are known for crossover failure at this age.

Sounds like a crossover failure on the Infinity.
The older Legacy Signature III will move a lot more air than the Infinity, while still remaining tight and defined.

If you can, check out the newer Legacy Signature SE- it gets even better!

This^^^....throw the Kappas in a closet somewhere and she'll forget all about them. The sigs are nice, grab 'em.

How old are they ? What color ? What condition ?
On my Focus 20/20's, the ribbon mahogany was a 500 buck extra. I didn't pay that, but that was the going rate at the time.

They are ribbon mahogany. From the pictures I saw there is only a small blem on the side of one speaker. I don't know the exact age.

Remember both sets of speakers if I'm not mistaken are 4 ohm and will dip down below that. Make sure your amp is 2-4 ohm capable to be safe.

If it was the Kappa 9, I would say it was more of a fair fight between the Sig III and kappa 9 but the 9 and the sigIII to me isn't a fair fight. The legacy I think will dig a little deeper on the low end ( due to 3 10 " woofers) and might be clearer in the midrange.

If it was me, and I had to choose between them, I would choose the legacy. Even for maintenance, isn't the infinity foam where the legacy is rubber?

Without the age it's kinda hard to tell their worth. Normally anywhere in the 1000-1500 range if they are taken care of.

    I have the 8's not the 9's.

I have an Aragon 4004 MKII, no worries with the amp, 1 ohm stable.

Well I missed out on these. I offered a cash deal and the seller wouldn't even respond. Then he sold them for less than we originally agreed on.

Looking at a pair of Legacy Audio Classics now. Anyone have any time with these?
