Turntable wall mount - diy noob

So I decided to try my hand at one of these basic wall mounts I've seen online using an Ikea cutting board. I have concrete walls. I mounted my tv without issue however this turntable mount is giving me trouble.

I asked the guy in my local hardware and he provided me with the brackets, 3/16 concrete drill bit and some blue concrete screws ( sorry, I don't know the size). I drilled the hole but it doesn't seem to go far enough. When I inserted the screws, they didn't go all the way in. I went back to the hardware and they suggested that I try to widen the holes a tiny bit. I did so with 3 out of 6 screws so far. The first two were fine, the third hole in now two big for the screw. When I hung my TV, I used bolts and I believe anchors on this same concrete wall which is mostly brick underneath. When I went back to the hardware the second time, I asked about bolts and anchors, but the guy just recommended widening the holes.



Is this a stable way to mount the turnable in the first place?? Thanks.

Personally I won't put it on there. The thing about concrete drill bits, especially inexpensive ones, is they wear out fast. Depending on the concrete I've had to use several drill bits to get the job done. You are using a hammer drill?

you will need tapcon screws which it looks like you have. The proper drill bit AND some plastic screw anchors that fit the hole pretty tight. You can buy all you need in a package at the local Menards,Lowes or home depot and a Hammer drill.

By the way i have used the same drill bit for years IF you use it right....

This is bad advice you need the proper drill bit and screw anchors them screws will zoom right in and it will take a tank to pull them out.

Use to install cable for a living, had concrete walls that my drill bits went thru like butter. Others that ate them like they were peanuts, same quality bits same drill.

Thanks guys, I do have a concrete drill bit. I do have to give it a bit of effort, but it does go through. I will look into some anchors today! Unfortunately, all of my walls are this way, it's an old prewar apartment building.

I would just get a really heavy thick cutting board and rest the turntable on it with spikes. I use this one:

With something that thick and heavy, almost all resonance is eliminated. I can tap very hard on the shelf that board sits on, and can barely hear a thing making it out of my speakers. I don't think you need to struggle with trying to mount it on the wall.

I found that mounting the TT on the wall was always the best option. But then again when I used a TT it was always in houses with suspended wood floors. Like others have said you need the plastic or soft metal (lead?) anchors.

When I mounted my TT to the concrete block walls in my basement I used an attachment system (forget the brand name) that consisted of a lead slug that was inserted into a predrilled hole with a bolt that would screw into the slug and expand tight into the hole. I found that if I got a little sloppy with the drill, the hole would egg out and the slug wouldn't fit tightly enough and spin when I tightened the bolt. Between the bracket and the wall I used some thick rubber that one would use under a door's threshhold. The brackets I used were the heavy duty shelf brackets from Home Depot, looks similar to the ones you have.

Just ensure you follow proper sanitation procedures with the cutting board. If you put your raw meat on it then scrub it well so your tunes sound clean.

I think a saw this one in a previous post of yours on the subject. The one I got from Ikea was 12 bucks, If I notice any resonance, I'll give this one a wirl.

not a problem, that's what I use the TT platter for.

I went back to the hardware store. After insisting I must have done something wrong, he realized he sold me screws that were longer than the drill bit ( I should have noticed this, but I'm a novice). He insisted I don't need anchors with these types of screw and gave me two additional screws wider in diameter to compensate for telling me to make the holes a bit wider and he threw in a longer drill bit at no charge. I will try it this weekend and if it doesn't work out, I will go with bolts and anchors from another hardware store.
