Default Can i change out just 2 tweeters on 1C's??

Any "electrical" reason i can not just change 2 of the 4 tweeters out on the 1C's?

I can afford 2 of the RDO's this month..next month i can get away with the other 2.

I will also pick up some spikes from all parts. But the SL2000's, really have to go.

Any reason i should NOT change at least the 2 out?..or just wait till i get all 4??

If your speakers are working why not just wait? Patience is something you're gonna have to have if you stay with this hobby.
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

You can change just 2 at the time but I would tend to agree with decal. Just save the money and wait until next month and change them all at once.

If you decide to change 2 out at the time change the top ones. If I remember correctly these are the ones that play the full upper range. the lower ones are rolled of at the high end and don't see as much signal so would make slightly less difference than the top ones.

Yep. You're very likely to not like the sound if you change only 2 of the 4 tweeters and have 2 Sl-2000 and 2 RD0-194's in the 1C's.

There's nothing preventing you from doing it. It won't damage anything, but will definitely sound odd, till all four are in place. As other have said, wait till you can get all four. Like the old Heinz Ketchup jingle, Anticipation...................................... ..
Be Sweeter when you have all four.

Buy the first pair, put 'em off to the side, and buy the 2nd pair as you can. Then install all four. You'll be so aggravated at having to look at the boxes of your first pair that getting pair #2 will be a high priority!

Another way to look at is, the sooner that break-in is begun on those two........the better.

Actually, I think it'll be interesting test to see how two upper RDO's affect the sound with two lower tweeters still being SL2000's.
It's not breaking anything so I'd say go ahead and try two now and see how different they sound and add two more later and then compare the sound again.
    It's double fun.

Or do one side, and see how really bad the SL2000s are. Could be fun and educational at the same time

You can also do just one side/channel and do an A/B comparison.

Sure why not since the lower ones are intentionally rolled off on the top end any way.

You could also sell the first two while waiting to save up for the 2nd pair. Be that much faster. For Sale section here, or eBay, should sell easily

There's certainly no "electrical" reason not to mix and match, but if this was only about electrical we would all experience nirvana with our transistor radios.

Sell off all 4 old, and break-in all 4 new RDO's in at the same time; your ears will thank you.

Thanks guys, guess i'll just try and wait till i get all 4....LOL

Just for yucks i went on ebay to see what the price of the SL2000 go for. There seems to be only 1 in working condition. The clown wants 49 bucks (not that he will get it) Are these tweeters becomeing scarce or something, or is this guy just nuts?? I didn't think they were even worth selling, was just going to pack them up and put them in a closet.

As long as they're fully functional, clean the face plates up with some Fantastic, and clean the domes with a little diluted Fantastic in a cup using some Q'Tips. You can get $40-50.00 per pair on eBay.

    ^^^ Winner.

My 1Bs have the capacitor modification in the crossover, RD0-198 "main" tweeters, and SL2000 secondary tweeters.

Schunkey..thats the way you like the 1B's? or your just waiting to get another set of 198's??

I know the 198's are "supposed" to be better then the 194's, but right now i'm not touching the Cross-over. It may be interesting to just change out the top 2000's in both speakers with the 194's. My guess is they can't sound worse...LOL since the bottom 2000's are rolled off anyway. I'm sure the 194's need at least 50 hours of break in time before they start sounding really good, but could be a cool test, just to see what that setup may sound like.

I refuse to buy more from Communist China than I have to. Inspiredsports reported acceptable results with a pair of 198s and a pair of SL2000 in his modified SDA-SRS 2 blade/blade speakers; and those are electrically identical to the active components in 1Bs except for one resistor per HF crossover.

OOOOKKK.....was kind of looking for a more sonic reason you liked that set up...but if it works for you due to the fact it's less bought stuff from Communist China..and it's passable....then i guess it works for you.

You DO know that most of what ever you buy to day, parts and pieces are made in China ..right??

This is NOT 1970..I can't get a Pontiac with a real Pontiac motor and all USA made parts.

Can't even get a Pontiac anymore...so not sure what your point is. You can't buy much of anything that dose not have parts made in China these days.....

Yes, I agree. The Chinese and the Communist Collaborators in this country have already destroyed vast swaths of American industry. Given a choice, I'll attempt to minimize their impact. This country already owes too much to the Communists, and they're already too entrenched in our society. We should have sent them nukes instead of millions of bales of money.

It's been a long time and I don't have the energy to search, but I'm 99.9999% sure I never had the SL2000's in place. I'd purchased RDO-194's and then migrated 2 at a time to 198's. The RDO-194's were acceptable in the rolled-off spot.

I use SL2000's for target practice with my Glocks and Bushmaster unless passing them off to people I despise or friends ex-wives.

I too hate Communist China, but get rid of the 2000's.
