    Default HDMI splitter problem

So I just received my HDMI splitter from amazon today and I've run into an unforeseen problem.

What I'm trying to do is split the HDMI output of a blu-ray player so that the TV (Samsung PN43D450) gets the HD video signal, and the amp (Denon AVR-3310ci) gets the HD audio signal. The Denon's HDMI output is dead which is why I'm in this mess to begin with.

So the issue currently is that the HDMI splitter works great, TV gets a nice picture, amp gets audio, but I only get 2 channel audio. If I unplug the HDMI cable from the TV - boom, the Denon gets the HD audio track, fancy blue light on Denon turns on and all is well.

It seems that the TV wants 2 channel audio and somehow signals to the blu ray player to send a different audio feed? I can't figure out a way to avoid this.

My solution before this was to use an old blu-ray player that could still send HD video out the component output but that player is on it's last legs. I almost snagged a nice Pioneer in the flea market that would have solved the issue as it had 7.1 analog outs.

Anyway, I'm stumped. I'm still testing this with my old blu-ray player (sharp BD-HP16) but it seems like my splitter idea may not actually work.

    Any ideas?

You mention the "old" blu-ray player is a Sharp. What brand/model is the new player?

The tv is forcing protocol on the hdmi splitter so you really need a bluray player with dual hdmi output. I had this similar problem for 3D as my Anthem d2 cannot decode 3D bluray video so I purchased a sony bdp 790 and solved the problem. The sony 790 is the same quality as the oppo and one of the best on the market for streaming video

I'm currently testing the HDMI splitter with the old player - I haven't bought a new one yet. Leaning towards last year's LG BP-220 as it reviewed well. I don't think the player will have any options to force a certain audio format though, it seems like the TV communicates some type of sync signal back to the blu-ray player and tells it what type of audio it wants. I tried swapping the two outputs from the splitter also, thinking perhaps one to presidency over the other, no dice.

Hey PFB - I must have been typing as you responded. I'll look up the 790, I'm assuming it must have dual HDMI outputs then...

Yep and you can configure them for both to audio and picture or just one audio only and the other picture. You can find the 790's for around $200 on ebay and they do sacd

Okay, so the S-790 looks just great, in fact I almost ordered one but now I notice that Sony has recently discontinued the s-390, and s-590... Discounting them on their website also. Now I'm not sure if I should wait a bit to see what could replace the 790 or possibly snag a 790 at a slight discount in the next month or two.

The good news is I just ordered up a new polk PSW-505 for $189 shipped!

Anyone have thoughts on if now is a bad time to buy the 790?

I wonder if you turned off the tv's audio in the menu if that would help.

Changing the audio settings on the TV didn't seem to help. I tried turning the internal speakers for the television off altogether but it still defaulted to 2-channel audio. I've pretty much given up on the splitter idea, looking for opinions on buying the well reviewed Sony S790, just not sure it's the right time to buy as they recently discounted then phased out the S390/590.

I'm going to start a new thread to gain some opinions about buying the BDP-S790.

There are a wide range of HDMI Splitter solutions available on the market. What you need is a powered splitter solutions that is EDID and HDCP compliant. I have used KVMSwitchTech's HDMI Splitter and HDMI Extender solutions in the past and they work great.

I think I've given up on the splitter solution. The splitter I tried was powered but the TV would downgrade the audio two 2-channel when plugged in. I went ahead and ordered a sony BDP-S790 with dual HDMI outputs to solve the issue. HDMI seems a bit confusing and unreliable...

Have you thought about the Oppo BDP-103 ? http://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-b...-Features.aspx
It has Dual HDMI Outputs/Dual HDMI inputs and 7.1-Channel Analog Output. its $499 but is a solution to your situation.

Perhaps he'd love to sell something?

Anyway, I ended up buying the sony BDP-S790 and love it so far, it even streams netflix in the newer "super HD" which I believe is 1080? Netflix even kicks my Denon's blue "HD audio" light which if nothing else makes me think the audio quality is better. It also has played every Blu-ray flawlessly and boots up nice and quick!
