    Default Denon turntable

Hey guys, new to the site and i need help. I'm getting back into vinyl at the age of 44 and am wanting to purchase a tunrtable
first.. As a teenager i really enjoyed the Denon line but i am having trouble finding, learning the denon line. i want to go with a
audiophile type setup so i was looking at the denon Dp59 all the up to the Dp100.. Vintage setup is what i'm looking for.

    DP-100
    DP-80
    DP-75
    DP-72
    DP-70
    DP-62
    DP-61
    DP-60
    DP-59

Can any give there input as to what you have, or have used, and my likely trouble finding the upper end models.. I have no idea yet as to what Rec, Amp and Speakers to best match to this for the hi-fi vintage sound i'm looking for. Again i am new to trying to setup a vintage hi-fi rig.

    Welcome to CP!

My friend and fellow CP member Carl (schwarcw) has a fine Denon 59L he uses in his SDA rig. The issue with some of the older higher end gear in good looking and working order is the high price.

What are you thinking of for speakers? That will determine what you need for power requirements. That is a high efficiency speaker is easier to drive with a lower wattage receiver. In my basement retro rig I have Polk Monitor 7A's powered by Yamaha gear with built in phono stage and it sound really nice. It's hard to beat the looks and sound of vintage Marantz gear.

Well, to be honest its been alot of years since i've been into a store or any place to discuss buying or setting up a rig. I'm really a open book to hearing what other pieces fit well with the higher end Denon< hoping people could help me sorta put a whole rig
together.. problem so far on the turntable is i dont know what prices are running or how hard it is to even locate some of the high end models. I'm looking to get the orig box, manuals, accessorys, and a mint looking and working Denon.. I expect to be in the $500
-$700 range for the table, plus then adding a cart and stylist.. I cant even locate any of these units for sale and dont know where to look or find

The Dp-75 is a platter only. I think the DP-80 is also. I had a DP-75 in the 1980's and loved it matched with a SME arm. I currently have a DP-72, it came w/o an arm and I put a Grace 707 on it. Its a very nice unit. ScompRacer is correct, the issue will be price. The DP-75 has skyrocketed in price I assume because they are very desired by audio afficionados. Since I purchased my DP-72, the prices have gone up. Personally, I love the Denon platters. Never had a Denon arm except on an entry-level DP-7F, which was surprisingly good for its price point. It was a P-mount, however, which seriously limited your cart selection. However, I got that one used and it came with a Shure 110HE, which also was a surprisingly good cart for the price, no longer made though.

Welcome to Club Polk. I am a long time Denon fan but, while I have had a eye on them, I have never owned a Denon TT. I have owned their high end 2 channel receivers (DRA-825R and DRA-835R), cassette decks (DRM-700A and DRA-800A), etc. I have heard good things about Denon TT's and phono cartridges.

What equipment do you have so far?
    Stan

    Main 2ch:
    Polk LSi15 (DB840 upgrade)
    Parasound: C/PT-600, HCA-800II; Denon: DVD-2910, DRM-800A; Monster HTS3600-MKII, Grado SR-225i

    HT:
    Denon AVR-888, Polk: RM7, PSW10, Marantz UD5005, Panasonic TC-P42S60

    Other stuff:
    Denon: DRA-835R, DRA-825R, DCD-660, DRM-700A, DRR-780; Polk: RTA11TL (RDO198-1, XO and Damping Upgrades), S8, Monitor 5A, TSi100; Pioneer CT-6R, PL-530; Onkyo CP-1046F; Ortofon OM5E, Marantz PM5004, CD5004

Hey Stan, thx for the welcome. to be honest i dont have anything yet as i'm just getting back into things as a adult.. My story is
simply, i've always loved music and had different setups as a kid but nothing worth collecting.. I'm hoping to make friends and get some solid ideas for a setup<< each piece.. sad to say be i'm not up on what works with what yet. TT,pre, amp, speakers or TT,
    Rec,speakers or something else.

Welcome , I can't tell you which you should get but for sure I can tell to stay away from the model I have. It's a Denon DP-11F and all features work but the most annoying thing that it nevers powers off even after the LP is done and the arm is back in it's holder. To power on or off you need to push a spring loaded switch, assuming all is lined up anti skate, push start and it goes.It does have a series of LED lit commands such as lifter, speed, size, start and stop. The annoying thing is if you forget to push the high power button off you have it powered on forever which produces heat and if a LP were to be on the platter it would warp horribly and who knows might even cause a fire. Not the one to get.My cart is a Grado GF-3 again entry level stuff.

I love my DP 62L. Beautiful Cherry finish. Great rig, though a little pricey. A Concept 16.5 would go very nicely with it.

I had a DP 60 & 62 in the past. I honestly liked my technics 1200 better for sound. The denon looked better that is for sure but, the technics with a denon dl160 i thought sounded better on my rig.

My Denon DP-59L has been operating flawlessly going on 26 years now. I replaced the captive cables with RCA jacks. It is currently mated to an Audio-Technica AT33EV MC cartridge.

What a handsome table! Those old vintage tables just have so much more "class" than the new ones, real lookers!
