Default Matching for a Yamaha cr-620

I was looking for a match up for my Yamaha vintage stereo. Would the small polk t15 be a good match for a small bedroom set up....i have big speakers for bigger units. So i was looking for bookshelfs. Any feedback on t15's would be great. Thanks

Get a vintage model if you want to go all vintage.
Monitor 4.6 or 5 would be much better.

A CR-620 would sho'nuff complement a pair of vintage Monitor Series Model 7 or 7A nicely (and vice versa). Had to say it...

    ;-)

(spot the CR-620 in the photo...)

EDIT: or Monitor 4 or Monitor 5 for the bedroom application!

That line of Yamaha equipment (the CR-xx20 series of receivers and the CA-xx10 series of integrated amps) is very neutral and accurate and sounds very good (even by modern "audiophile" standards).

I just ordered a pair of 5jr off the bay. Hope they get here intact..i just hooked the Yammy up to some B&W v201's temporary and they sound very nice. But not the vintage look im wanting,so on the bay i went. THERE ON THERE WAY----hope they sound as good or better than the little v201's----- i have 1set ordered through fed ex and last i knew they were still in California. What a slow process. The 5j's im not sure who there delivered by but i hope its not Fedex--and they get here safely----------- oh second one from bottom. If im right---- and i will say the yamaha sounds clearer and accurate more that the Sansui G5000 i have. But that could be the speakers i have hooked to them too--thanks for feedback on selecting speakers. I will tell how they sound when they arrive

My biases aside, it's really only fair to compare apples to apples - when we're talking about 30-plus year old equipment, some of the differences we hear relate to the degradation of individual circuitry components (e.g., electrolytic capacitors) rather than reflecting intrinsic differences between two audio components.

    Or, in other words... :-)

I expect the Yamaha to sound better, relative to my ears and tastes, than the Sansui - but your assessment that it does sound better to you might change if both receivers were equivalently rehabilitated.

And yeah, the 620 is (I think!) the next-to-the-bottom :-) I know it's an R-1000 (dump find) below it.
    all the best,

    What's ya been doing, Randy?

I have a Yamaha CR-800 (one of my favorite pieces). Just a little more power than the 600 series, not much. I've never tried it with my Monitor 5As but I have no doubt that it would sound good.

You're right. These Yammies have a cleaner sound than the Sansui which tends to be "warmer", some say darker sounding? The combo that I most love on the Yamaha is my set of ADS L520s (what a match, everything sounds good on that). But I suspect Monitor 5jrs. will be pretty good too!

Tell us when they come in!

Pete does "good" work at the Stereo Doctor. And he's an "honest" man who will not overcharge you. I can't tell you how many things he's worked on for me; a Realistic and Pioneer receiver, an old cassette deck, Kenwood integrated amp, some KLH speakers, and we're currently refurbing a cheap set of old JBL bookshelves (crossovers and new tweeters--Peerless tweeters from Parts-Express--we're changing the sound of the bookies because we could not find a working JBL tweeter--the original design was "faulty" according to Pete, who I let pull one of the dead tweeters apart). Highly recommended.

Don't know about the other group you mention. But hey, there are not really many questionable people up where we are. Most are fairly honest!

As you know. Pete charges a $25 up front fee to assess the piece, this fee is also included in the final total cost, which is a good thing. The guy's been in the business for over 20 years! I doubt there's much he has not seen!

The only thing to keep in mind is that repairs will be SLOW! And you should be prepared not to see your stuff for a while as he's pretty booked up!
