    Default Wiring Center Channel

This may be a stupid question, but does anyone ever wire the CS400i as part of the L and R channel, or either one?

The reason I ask is because I listen to a lot more music and play video games way more often than watch movies in surround sound. This decreases my usage of the center channel, but I would like to hear it. Actually, I would like to hear all my 5 speakers at all times. Is there a mode that I am not aware of that turns them all on, without making music sound strange since it's in surround.

Anyone have any tips for me to achieve this without blowing something? My setup is in my sig.

Don't wire it differently, just use PLII movie or game mode. That will sent the dialogue to the center channel. There is also a music mode, but I prefer 5 channel surround if I'm going that route (though I prefer stereo for music recorded in...stereo).

Experiment and sew what u come up with!

My Yamaha has a setting in the 'Music' portion of the DLP's called "7 Channel Stereo" that sends all information to each channel. What AVR are you using, or are you on separates?

There's no need to change your wiring to accomplish what you're looking for. Your E-300 has a DPLII Music mode which is specifically designed for this. It doesn't make the music "sound strange"; on the contrary it sounds more realistic than listening only with two front speakers. In nearly all music recordings the microphones pick up a substantial amount of reflected sound from directions other than the front. In 2-channel source material this sound has to be mixed into the front channels(there was no place else to put it). A mode such as DPLII(Neo:6 is similar)detects phase differences in the reflected ambience in the front channels, extracts it, and sends it to the surround speakers where it belongs. It also sends sound about equal in both front channels(which is meant to image in the center)to a center channel speaker if it's present.

I always use all of my speakers when playing 2-channel source material to bring the effect a little closer to reality, and would never voluntarily limit myself to listening with only the main speakers. You're justified in wanting to take advantage of all the speakers that you've paid for, and should try DPLII Music.

    That explains a lot.
