What 's the opinion around here of Apples's Ipod? Models? Price?

if you're a brand whore who just wants the newest "thing" go for it. If you're looking for better audio fidelity, more storage, and longer battery life in the same size chassis, for a lower price, then there are several big players to choose from. Look for HD players from Creative, Dell, and iRiver for starters.

There has been a big hoopla recently about their terrible battery life. Supposedly they only last for about 18 months before their battery dies, for good, no bringing it back with a recharge. At this point, you have to spend upwards of $200 to get the battery fixed. Sounds like a pretty crappy deal for someone who just dropped roughly the same or more to get the player as a whole. I would look elsewhere. They are pretty sweet, but, I would still look elsewhere. Too expensive.

I've got in iRiver with 256mb of memory, a radio, and a voice recorder all for about $250 at Best Buy with extended warranty. Its great.
