    Default Rogue blew fuse

I got my 120's in the mail yesterday to upgrade from the original KT-90's [Cronus Mag].

Each power tube has it's own 1/4 amp slow blow fuse.

I biased each one according to Rogues instructions.

I let them warm up for 30min. before biasing, during warm up I heard a pop through the speakers.

I panicked and thought oh crap what happened, tube 3 blew the fuse.

Luckily the amp came with extra fuses so I replaced it. Mark at Rogue said I may have a bad tube. He said try the new fuse and I did with no problems so far.

What caused the fuse to blow?

Played Dianna Krall all day on repeat just to let them burn in with no problem.

Went out most of the night last night and left CDP on repeat. When I got home the CDP was skipping like crazy.
Basic Denon from 91 with not much use through the years. I'm assuming heat may be a problem to this older player?
CDP was not close to the amp so I know it wasn't related to the heat from the amp.

Would like to replace CDP if needed but have no idea what to consider. Any ideas on a single disc player?

With any power tube change I always set the bias after a short 2-3 minute warm up, just to get them close, the former bias point will always be different for any tube change. I then I go back after 30-40 minute warm up and fine tune.

There are a world of cdp's out there, I'd look for one that has some tubes in it!

    Thanks Mike,

Thats pretty much what Mark told me to do. So far I'm pretty happy with them. I'm in the market for a dvd & cdp, there are so many to choose from I don't know which way to go combo or separates. I just want dvd strictly to plug straight to TV no surround or anything like that & single disc cdp.

Went ahead and got new cover from Rogue. After hearing horror stories about extenders I didn't want to risk it.

    Looks good Charlie!

I love my Rogue Model 99 Super Magnum.

I am not a fan of Oppo, but that's just me. I like the Denon or Marantz products.

In fact, Erniejade has a Denon 2910 for sale in the Classified Ads for $100. Look Here

You have a lot choices in that price range. Good luck!

Why not a blu ray player so you can have upsampled 1080p DVD's? Just a thought. But I don't know how good their cd performance is.

The video side is not to important, I watch maybe 3 or 4 rentals a year. Video is not as important as 2 channel to me.

I'm starting to notice a lot of these dvd/cd combos are showing up refurbished, so this tells me these units are problematic.

I thought it would be nice to have a combo and maybe get a little better audio quality on the 2 channel side and have dvd too.

My Denon cdp is circa 91 and has worked well up till now. It has served its purpose for the small price I paid for it in 91.

I'm thinking maybe just looking for decent cdp and go cheaper on dvd player since it will seldom get used.

Nice Rogue! I love my Eighty Eight Magnum. You have a lot of options in your price range for a cdp player in the used market. I have used a Rega Apollo and a Consanance CD-120 Balanced as dedicated Redbook CDPs in the past with good success. I really enjoyed both but would give a slight edge to the Consanance. I've also ran a Denon DVD-2900 and 2910 with good success for DVDA and SACD. They don't sound as good with Redbook CDPs as either the Rega or the Consanance however. I'm still using my DVD-2900 in my bedroom system along with a MHDT Labs Paradisea + Tube DAC when I'm playing Redbook CDs and it sounds killer. With that setup I get great Redbook CD and SACD/DVDA performance.

Having said all of that I'm now running a NAD M-55 in my main system as a single player for Redbook CD, SACD, and DVDA. The problem with most SACD and DVDA players are they do not sound as good playing Redbook CDs until you start getting in the $3000 range. The NAD M-55 sounds better with Redbook CDs than the Rega, Consanance, and the MHDT Labs DAC and sounds better than both the Denons with SACD and DVDA by a good margin. In other words, its one player that does everything extremely well. It does not play Blue Rays however, but it does not sound like thats a concern for you. I paid $575 for my NAD M-55 of the Gon and it was barely used. I think for your budget you would have a hard time finding a better player and it will give you the option of experimenting with SACDs and DVDAs to see what that is all about.
