    Default EMOTIVA Catalog

I just got one in the mail, I didn't even know they did that. Just curious if anyone else received one. Interesting new Reference Series they are releasing. XPR-1 monoblock, 1200w/1900w-8/4ohm, XPR-2 stereo 600w/1200w-8/4ohm, XPR-5 multi channel, 400w/600w-8/4ohm. Very interesting line up. This is simply an FYI post. Flamers please save it for another day.

WOW! Those are some big numbers on all those amplifiers! They never tell the amperage though to go along with their wattage numbers. However, they must be pretty decent.

PUT YOUR FLAME SUIT ON!Attachment 78123

I have seen alot of flamage on most forums about the EMOTIVA gear.
I heard some last year (local guy), and have to admit, the amp did nothing wrong as far as I was concerned (maybe a hair bright).
I thought it sounded really pretty good in 2 ch.
He was even using Aluminum hard dome NHT tweeters!
Not the best I have heard, but really nice, no complaints from me what so ever.

Guess it is a matter of source components, and like everything else, YMMV.

I received the catalog. They must buy the names from one of the stereo/video magazines I subscribe to. Regarding the amp ratings, whether this matters or not, I noticed that their 4 ohm rating is only slightly higher than the 8 ohm rating.

I got one today as well. I don't know where they got my address from, but I did glance through it while at the laundromat this afternoon. I have no opinions on their gear, however, because I've never heard any of it...

Their current monoblocks double into 4 ohms, and I'm disappointed when any manufacturer departs from the model.

True. My mistake for just doing a quick glance, and then making an assumption.

To be honest, while I understand the business model, design in USA, manufacture in China, and sell over Internet, I just cannot get a gripe on the crazy low prices with the claim of using premium components, 5 year warranty, and free shipping. Maybe other manufacturers gear does have higher margins than Emotiva, but selling a 1000w (4 ohm) monoblock for $850 cannot be providing much profit. Something just does not add up.

I've never owned any Emotiva gear. but I would definitely consider it. I friend of mine got one of their UMC-1's , and a XPA-2. Whenlistening to this setup with his Maggie 1.7's and his Oppo I was more than impressed. Actually, I was blown away especially considering the price he paid for this stuff. Amp is built like a tank. It you don't trust your ears, then don't listen to this stuff.

The XPA-5 in my HT setup has done a great job. It's not quite as articulate, detailed, or refined as the 110lb beast of a BAT VK-500 in my 2-channel rig, but it's a solid amplifier nonetheless.

Although, now that I'm going LSiM in the HT setup, I'll be looking to replace it with either a B&K Reference 200.5 or a Parasound HCA-2205... not because the Emotiva is BAD, just because the LSiM's are so GOOD.

Having never heard an Emo amp I can't pass judgement. But their new lineup is very intriguing. The XPR-2 stereo amp (600w 8 ohm, 1200w 4 ohm) especially looks tempting. Their new line appears to be completely different from previous models. At it's selling price the XPR-2 just might be worth a whirl in my system to check it out. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

It's bang-for-the-buck gear, ala Outlaw, SVS (in the beginning), and other's of the same business model. It's better to have it in the market so that more people can start their journey, rather than be excluded from becoming an audio/HT enthusias. Never underestimate the show-off factor to a room full of your buddies, who don't have any more clue as to what good performing gear and SQ is than you do. The tide rises all ships.

Wattage ratings really don't mean anything beyond the "testosterone" factor regarding mine is bigger than yours. The mailman has been instructed to never leave any literature from Emotiva in my mailbox.

It's entry level HT gear nothing more. If that's what floats your boat, then get your $$$ out and enjoy.

The audio god's have spoken...everyone listen up now. I do find it ironic though that most of the guys here that disparidge Emo gear are running with Polk speakers. A laughable offense on other forums to say the least. The word audiophile & Polk can't be used in the same sentence. Of course we all know better & Polk is well admired here on this forum. Others simply disagree for whatever reason. The same goes for all other manuf. & are trashed on other forums as well, such as McIntosh, Krell, MF, PASS, Jeff Rowland etc. etc. etc. It just goes to show you that this is one fickle hobby & that opinions will be all over the map.

You're finding enjoyment out of a entry level dared pre so why do you think it's not possible to find enjoyment out a "entry level" Emo amp?

Some people aren't happy unless they have someone to kick around.

I was at a listening session with classe, Odyssey, Emotiva, and Threshold, and Several people thought the Emotiva was every bit as good as any other amplifier. Myself included. Dollar for Dollar, Emotiva does quite well

1+ dkg! If nothing else, what's wrong with a company that makes it financially possible for a newbie to enter our world? Doesn't everyone in our industry win with this scenario?
