Question HELP! Going to order something tomorrow.. either Old LSi or New LSIM.. cant decide!

Wife gave me the go ahead last Friday to order a set of 5.1 LSIM (705,704 "most likely go 706 instead",703).. was on the fense between the older LSi and the new LSim all month long.. back and forth.

Anyways the more I think about the price of what its going to cost me for the new 5.1 LSim series ($4,237.10) I could grab a set of LSi25s,2 or 3 sets of the LSi7s (1 set for the center since i cant find a LSiC) and also grab a new Emotiva XPA-5 and XPA-3 and still be under that price. 7.1 set of LSis for under that price!

I planed on just running them for like a month or so on my current receiver "IF" I wont damage the speakers till I can grab a new amp or 2 though I could get it all done and over with in one shot with the older LSi.

Everything new on both sides of course..

Set me straight and as my head is going to explode!

Also I really cant make up my mind on the color of either set as well!

Started out wanting the Ebony LSIs but now i'm all about that Cherry! And for the LSim I was loving the Midnight but now i'm kinda leaning to the Cherry as well! haha..

You think my wife could help decide but shes one that can never make up her mind and i'm ususally the one that can no problem. SUCKS!

I've looked at both real pics and videos on both speakers and I still having a hard time picking the damn color!

I think you'll be happier with the Lsim's, however to get the most out of either one you'll want to run them off an amp. What about 2 pairs of 703's and the 706 center with a used 5 channel amp from Rotel, Parasound, Nad etc. That's what i'd do in your shoes.

I feel that the LSIM is everything the previous generation wished to be and it is easier on the demand for power. The question is, have you listened to each line?

Thanks... yeah I've thought of that. Would be like $3280ish.. Though i'd having to spend another 100-250 on stands that I've looked at and liked. Though I could go with a 3rd set of 703s for 7.1 for under the price i'll be buying the 705s and the rest. hmmm

Never used Bookshelfs for fronts before and kind of afraid my 4 year old son and 8 year old daughter my knock it over. Sure they would sound just fine but the tower is more sexy! haha.

I know the new line will prob impress more but look at where i'm coming from? I've always been wanting the LSi since I first heard them 10 years ago but couldn't even touch the price at that time. Know I would love the sound and frankly I love the look of the older line more.. i'm sure I would love the look of the new LSim in person though haha.

About $5192 for 3 sets of 703s and a 706 (7.1) and a Emotiva XPA-5.. Plus tax.. Though I know the Emo may not be the right choice for the LSIM.. though as I've read.

Prob around $800 more then the old line for 7.1 and 2 amps.

Understand fully.. though I currently don't have the proper power for the new or old lines but prob could get out of the start gate with the new line and my current receiver for 5.1.

    @#!$!@#!$!!!!

Finally got my wife to sit in the chair and pay attention to some videos and pics of the old and new line of LSi speakers. She's totally fine with the look of the 703s! So that's cool.. save some cash there. Said whatever about getting the larger 706 center over the 704.. AND likes the Midnight color more then the cherry. Now where getting somewhere.. :)

    2 sets of 703s (fronts + surrounds)
    706 center
    Color Midnight Mahogany

    Estimated total - $3347

Grab a Emo XPA-5 for a grand total of 4247! :) haha.. that would be best.

Now prob is.. they only have 1 freakin set of midnight Mahogany 703s! !@$%!#%!# !#!@%!#!$ :( :( :(

I like this setup cause its flexable.. I'm currently living in a condo with people below me. Year or 2 from now (hopefully this summer) when we FINALLY find a house, I can upgrade later on with a 705 or 707 and then move the front pair of 703s to the rear channel or grab the 702s and use the 703s for front heights or wides maybe.

Better to go for the 705's. Got the wife's approval for new speakers, may not get it for a 703 to 705 upgrade. I know money may be an issue, but sometimes being really happy is worth it.

Yeah, that's what I told her.. Have the money now but might not later on.. so best to grab it while I can.

Would'nt mind the 703s for fronts, its just that I know me.. and i'll always be feeling "what am I missing from the 705s???" and that will bug the crap out of me.

You need to find a way to get your ears on them. The towers are nice, but for the price and performance of the 703, its almost a no-brainer. For building a dual-purpose system like you are, I'd suggest the M over the old series every day of the week. For music, I could see it being somewhat a preference, but even then the M is absolutely the better speaker, just voiced differently.

No dealers around here have the newer line.. only the cheaper polk speakers and even finding the newer Rtia line is a challenge locally.

703s would be great but for movies i'll want a better sounding sub then what I have and I wonder if I coud just get by without a sub in my space for the mean time... or atleast when I get a new amp to drive the fronts.

Well going to order the 705s,703 and 706c as soon as I get my total.

Next topic that i'll be wanted to figure out is what a good amp to power them all to go with? Emotiva XPA-5 not a good enough match?

Do you have a subwoofer? I assume the 703s with a, properly set up, sealed subwoofer would probably outdo the 705s on the lower end.

If you're plagued by the "what ifs" and know you won't get over it then don't think twice about it.

Just the old sub in my signature. Plenty for our room though but doubt will match the sound quality of the 705.

I guess i'll get to compare the 705/703 when they show up at my door step hehe.

Found out today that my speakers are coming tomorrow. All but 1 705! :( Talk about a punch to the gut!

Was told there trying to locate another one.

Polk just listed some in Midnight Mahogany on there site so I hope that means they did and I have one more on the way.

    I got screwed!

Speakers were coming yesterday pre the tracking.. Never happened. Wake up today and check the tracking and it says N/A.

Call right away and after 3 people find out its not coming cause no one took down my phone number to schedual a delivery. I asked if I can pick it up and that's what i'm trying to do now.

Thanks Polk Direct.. she did remember the 2nd time to ask for my phone number when she was sending out the 2nd 705.

One would think FedEx wouldn't even take the packages from Polk without a phone number since they will need it.

Just got off the phone with fedex and i'm heading out in 30 mins to grab them!

Ok they let me go pick the speakers up! About a 30 min round trip and I managed to get that 705 up the stairs! Slid it up. :)

Boxes don't look in that great of shape and the 706 is the worst box. The middle is crushed in. Don't ask why I left the dock without opening the box.. I guess since my 4 year old was in the car I didn't really have a lot of time to mess around. Hoping its fine.

Gona do my usual picture taking of all boxes and while opening them up!

All good! Having speakers delivered to your door is for wimps! haha

Kinda got lucky in a way that one of the 2 705s were not shipped with the order as the 4 speakers just fit in our Dodge Journey.

As bad as those boxes look, they were all perfect! haha. Currently have the 703s stacked on my 10 year old Polk RTi70s and the single 705 standing next to the right front to test them all out.

Right away as soon as I plugged a 703 in on the RTi70 it sounds crisp and clear! If i'm wowed the sec I hear them and I was perfectly happy with the sound from my old RTi70s, i'm in for a tweat once these break in and I get an external amp later on. :)

Took prob 100 pics.. all kinda suck cause of the direct sun light in the living room at the time. Will post those up in an hour or 2.

    HAPPY HAPPY!

Oh and that 705! Thank god I got them! Was a bish getting it out of the box all by myself. But when I pulled the cover off of it the first words out of my mouth was, "Holy Sh!T!!!" That speaker looks mean in person and I think it could kick some serious ass! lol
