I would send them a picture of the panel hours.

As far as I can tell, there's nothing showing panel hours in the menus. Unless there's a hidden service menu somewhere. But the tech that came out said there wasn't anything like that on my TV. Believe me, I'd LOVE to have that info at my disposal.

Yes, you can access your panel hours and the number of turn ons. I'll send you a PM when I get home. It's not under the regular menu.

True. But still over $1k out of my own pocket. May as well just get a new TV.

I feel for ya on the Samsung. I've never had any luck with their products. Wife's Samsung Moment took a crap shortly after buying.. my tablet had a few issues.. more than one optical player of theirs has made it to the dump from our home.. and your issues with the TV's among many others..

These companies need to do a much better job of standing behind their products. 1 year? Please.

Thanks to leroyjr1, have proof now that my TV has only been operating for 540 hours and 206 power-ups.

Yeah. TV's should last longer than that. And they'd better agree with me.

It's actually been about 6 months. And yes, my 2yo has gotten ahold of the remote a couple times. :-)

Even with that, just a little over one per day. I don't think that's excessive.

Not excessive at all. I turn mine on about 3-4 times a day. If I leave out the room for more than 10 minutes or so I'll turn it off till I get back.

Way too excessive IMO. I could never do that to my LED set. That doesn't hurt the Plasma sets?

Samsung has been getting a lot of negative press here. I have two Samsung 51 plasma's. one I use for the family room for tv viewing and the other in the basement rec room for my HT. Neither have given me any issues. Great pictures, especially the one in the basement. Plasma is must better in darken areas. I know then company's can be quirky and streaky with products as they seem to be in a constant state of change to accommodate the market, it's sometimes hard to know. I read a lot of reviews. CR rated the one purchased, the PN51E6500 51" 1080p, with highly favorable results and it was a recommended choice. This may or may mean anything to people, but for me CR over the years (and I have a lot of 'em) have been a pretty good guide. So thus far these two tv's seem to be working out. Just throwing my 2 pence in.

You do realize that Consumer Reports is paid by manufacturers to review products right?
I prefer to go by real world results versus lab testing. And real world reviews tend to weigh heavily to the negative against Samsung.
My old roomates had to have their Samsung LED TV replaced 4 times *4* before they got one that didn't have something wrong with it.
I have a Samsung Blu-Ray player that lasted 3 weeks. The replacement worked fine until a firmware update bricked it. Followed the process in the manual step by step and when I tried to get it replaced under warranty, Samsung had the nerve to tell me that I didn't read the manual correctly. *facepalm*

I would be so pissed off at Samsung if they **** all over me with this lack of customer service. If Samsung had a samsung store I would feel like the grandma in the discount tire ad who throws the tire through the front glass window of the store. If you own a Samsung product be prepared to bend over because they don't give a **** about you.

I own Panasonic, I own Polk Audio, as well as many other brands of "stuff". Any of these guys can and do have a problem from time to time, it is how they handle them that makes them or breaks them to me.

I can't think if any of them that compares to Polk's customer service.

That is a very good question. I think it is possible they will come down more, but not by a big margin.

So, after reviewing my case, Panasonic called me back and offered a 50% discount on the price of a new TV. I may be stupid, but I told him in friendly terms to 'stick it'. Principle of the matter to me. They could have offered a complete replacement for just a few hundred more and I would have praised them from the rooftops.

I dunno.. should I have whore'd out and taken it?

I think you have taken it, you waited too long to use TV and if I remember correctly the warrenty had expired. They actually owe you nothing even if the display hours were 0.

agree. Its outside of policy. Its written what the term is, anything they are willing to do outside of that is good and doesn't have to be done.

It is not the company's fault you waited to hook it up etc, that was your choice.

I understand being mad that something didn't last as long as you thought it should have, but I think they are doing well at giving you 50% off a new model when they really don't have to give you anything.

I really don't understand the whole concept that people think because its a couple months etc outside of the policy that they should be treated differently. Its a company, they set the rule, you as the consumer are given clear information of that rule, anything beyond that is not required nor should be counted on by the consumer to be done.

Alright. I don't feel good about it, but I called them back to take the deal. They could have done much better to stand behind their product but it's probably the best I could hope for.

Thanks for the opinions and listening to be b*tch.

Half is better than nothing. I told Samsung to let me win something, a starbucks card and I would be happy but NO ! I will not own any Crapsung stuff no matter if they make the best in the world which is a stretch.
