Tony that wasn't a sign that's what this cowboy told me at work.
Anyway there are lots of people that don't like ricers well you know at least one in 20.

Now for batteries, Sal...I understand that these batteries lose charging ability over time. Have you dug into what it cost to replace these batteries ? I would imagine there is also no spare tire either, where would you put it ?

As per the spare, the Leaf uses the same as the Ultima and can bought separately. The trunk is very deep (there is no gas tank)

Nissan is coming out with prices for the replacement battery pack this summer. It's true that the battery will lose charge capacity over time although people say that the battery should last for 200,000 miles.

On average I use 52 miles a day. So if my capacity goes down 50% then I'll have to either replace the battery or replace the car.

Some current owners have said that they'll just buy a New EV and use the Leaf for local errands around town (hopefully the car will be paid off by then and under 200,000 miles)

The batteries may be cheaper and better by then too, figure in about 6-7 years.

That's a good point. Maybe they'll have an upgraded battery too that gives better range. There are rumors that the 2014 will have 125 miles range.

Nissan does claim that I can get 137miles range with my car if I drive it exactly to their specs. They have a matrix on their site that explains the worst range and best and how to achieve those ranges.

Picked up a used 2011 Prius on Saturday. I did a cost breakdown of what my truck would cost me in gas over 4 years and it came out to over $14,000. My Prius will cost me $3,600 over 4 years. I'm on board with that but my penis shrunk as soon as they handed me the keys!

Saving coin is always a good thing. That said, in your calculations of savings, you assume electric rates will stay the same and new taxes won't be imposed on your electric vehicle. Both of which are in the works right now. You may still come out ahead of the game, but maybe not by as wide a margin as you thought. Something to ponder anyway.

Btw, I'm told that most electric vehicles have a safety built in that shuts down the electrical when a fender bender is detected. My question is, if it's a minor fender bender does that mean you still need it towed instead of being able to just drive home ? Who's able to reset the safety ? Dealer ? Any mechanic ? I dunno, just asking guys.

I don't have a "plug-in" Prius, so electric rates don't apply to my model. I believe plug-in Prius' are fairly new to the market. If one was smart, they'd invest in solar energy for their home to protect against rising energy costs.

I don't know about the built in safety feature you mentioned, but I have a warranty that covers absolutely EVERYTHING (not just powertrain) in the event of a failure up until 125k from Toyota. That includes unlimited towing & all parts AND labor. These cars do have to be taken in to the dealer if something goes wrong as they are literally computers on wheels. The good thing is that they are incredibly reliable cars and that's what I'm banking on in terms of saving money in the long run.

Had a Webasto 5300 Sunroof installed this weekend. Dropped off the Leaf at an installer in Hackensack NJ named Auto Sun Roof Inc, they've been in business since 1977 and have installed 400K sunroofs.

Webasto has been around since 1903.

Sunroof cost $1123.50 installed with Tax.

Looks like they did a nice job on the install. I have a sunroof on my Jetta, when I'm driving at night I call it a moonroof, makes me feel uppity.

Yeah they did a wonderful job. The trick is that they replace the entire headliner. So it looks like it's stock.

Some installers only replace 3/4 of the headliner and leave a seem at the back but these guys replaced the whole thing. Looks awesome.

The Sunroof has a 3yr/36000 miles parts plus labor warranty and a lifetime parts warranty. If a motor dies in 7 years I just pay for labor.

They move the interior ceiling light more back which looks better now because it ligths up the rear seat better.

If I had to be nitpicky the control button is black on my beige ceiling. They should have a beige one as well. Oh well. Tiny little thing.

Relax, man; it was a joke, albeit not a funny one. It was just a little play on your numerous pictures. Sorry if I forgot to include the obligatory smiley emoticon. Belated placement -->

It's a nice car (really!). I like the look of it, I love that it's energy efficient, and it's great that you enjoy it. No, I'm not going to follow that up with a, "...but" that would negate my compliment. Please take the compliment for what it's worth.

You seem incredibly intelligent based on the metrics that you've provided for the car's energy efficiency; the line of work that you're in (and the fact that you operate your own business); and your history of rebuilding vintage speakers (of which the electronics side of things is so over my head, it's impressive). I'm sure I'd buy you a beer in person.

With that being said, I feel that your flippant response highlights the anonymity that many on the internet feel grants them special dispensation to use immature, vulgar, and ridiculous language. As an adult over 40 (taking a guess on your age), that's uncalled for. As a business owner, I'd recommend that you take your social media character into consideration when posting stuff like that. I don't know you (personally nor very well via this forum), so I'm not going to pretend that I do. If I'm totally off the mark with my comments, my apologies. Just a casual observation from someone.

    Toodles.

After posting my previous message, I realize it was better suited as a PM. As such, I've PMd him with the original message. No need to follow up on his thread, as it should concentrate on his car.

Thanks, I saw that on the my nissan leaf forum it's not really for me. I drive 1000 miles a month in the Leaf. The main Battery warranty is good for 100,000 miles or 8 years. At 5 to 7 years old I'm most likely trading the car in for another Leaf.

That program the way it is written now costs you $100 per month for life to get a New or Refurb battery with 9 out of 12 bars when you get down to 8 bars.

The program isn't really for me, that would be good for somebody who either drove 30K miles a year or lives in very Hot or Very Cold climates.

    Default Drunk on cheap Beer.

LOL. The cars I had were and are junk. I guess you were drunk on cheap beer when you wrote this?

I just hit 2000 miles and I spent $51.84 on electricity. How many miles do you get on your POS suburban with $52 in Gas?!!! Goofball.

My 10 year old Hyundai still gets 27.5 MPG on the highway and it'll run circles around you!

My Chevy Suburban has a couple hundred thousand miles on it and runs terrific and looks great. And 5-6 years ago gas would cost me 50% to 60% less than today.

Sal good luck and I do hope it works out for you guys. I do understand all the warranty BS but don't count on it.

I am seeing more charging stations for electric vehicles and compressed natural gas vehicles here in metro Atlanta. The demand is definitely here for alternative fuel vehicles.

NJ has gotten it's first QC (Quick Charger)!!

With the QC I can charge 80% of my battery in 30 mins.

But this one is 103 miles from my house :(

Still too far away to be useful, I need them at least every 20 miles.

If you want to help me please sign this petition to install more Quick Chargers along the highways.

Sorry Sal, I signed the one to stop wasting our tax dollars on such nonsense. Gas stations can put these chargers in by themselves if they want to. Same with other businesses. Have nothing against them, just who's paying for them.

How's about petitioning the electric companies to put chargers every 20 miles for you. I think they can afford it, no ?

I think massage parlors should put them in, then while my car is charging I can get a 30 minute massage!

You might be on to something Lasareath. It seems like shopping malls and grocery stores would be the perfect locations for charging stations. They usually have large parking lots and incentives for people to spend money.
