Think of it as a big study. You pay them 500 bones a month to drive their car, give them all the data and feedback, they pay for the fuel and after 3 years the study is over.

This works out for the company too for tax reasons. Not a bad concept although the price of the lease is steep. I guess not having to pay for fuel makes up for that. Still, I want to see how these vehicles perform in other conditions.....hot and cold.

I guess it's not so bad. You get a New Hyundai SUV for $21,000 over the next 3 years. Fuel included.

I wonder if the people signing up will be limited on the amount of miles they can drive the car, Just like regular leases.

It would be a hell of a deal if you had a Taxi service and can get all the Hydrogen that you needed for free!

Just paid my last electric bill for 2013.

Over the past 5 years being in this house we have paid an average of $185.00 per month for electricity

    For 2009 we paid: $2340.83

    For 2010 we paid: $2272.44

    For 2011 we paid: $2097.57

    For 2012 we paid: $1786.60

    For 2013 we paid: $2596.73

For 8 months of 2013 I've had my Electric car and I have driven 8700 miles.

The LEAF costs anywhere from 2.3 to 2.8 cents per mile depending how you drive.

    @ 2.3 cents It's $200.10

    @ 2.8 cents It's $243.60

I think I'm at around $230 for the 8700 miles, It's really difficult to be 100% exact but if I were buying gas I would have spent around $1265 in gas. so 5.5 times more.

If you subtract $230 from my 2013 Electric costs I end up with $2366 which seems to fall in line exactly where it should be.

I think the 2012 is so low because the last bill of 2012 was paid in 2013 and that's why 2013 is 2366.

If you average out 2012 & 2013 it comes out to $2076 which is almost exactly like 2011

On April 20th it'll be a year that I own the LEAF and I'll look at the costs again.

    Sal,

I appreciate the time you have taken to keep this post updated. Because of this and other positive factors, I acquired a Nissan Leaf model "S" with the LED package. Additionally, my power provider enables customers to participate in a program that has been beneficial to quite a number of EV owners here in Metro Atlanta.

    Thanks again.

Loving it. I was paying roughly $650.00 per month for gas (averaging about 3,800 miles per month). Now, I am paying roughly $100.00 per month for electricity to power the car. I've been lucky enough to have access to charging stations at a few facilities around metro Atlanta. There is a pretty good infrastructure in the parts of metro Atlanta that I travel. There are even a couple of 480V stations that are about to pop up soon.

I have reserved the Tesla Model X with the 85 kWh battery, as well as received my VIN from a Tesla SC. They are supposed to start delivery during the first quarter of 2014.

The only thing I don't care for is the charge station I purchased (Siemens) has a chip embedded that shows my home on the map for nearby charge stations. Nothing major. I just have not been able to locate the chip to remove.

From $650 in gas to $100 in Electricity!!! That's amazing. I'm at 5.5x savings.

I'm jealous that you're getting a model X!!!! Damn I wish I could afford it.

Hopefully you'll post some pics here when you get it.

Today I paid to have my EVSE modified by http://evseupgrade.com/?main_page=pr...&products_id=2

The default configuration of the EVSE that comes with the LEAF charges at 120 Volts and can re-charge the main batteries in 16 hours or around 6 miles of range per hour (very slow)

The upgrade costs $287 and that allows the upgraded EVSE to charge the LEAF at 24 miles per hour or around 4 hours for a full charge.

The upgrade changes the standard 120V Nema 5-15P to a L6-30 Plug and if you want to use 120V again you will need buy buy a $25 adapter. http://evseupgrade.com/?main_page=pr...products_id=13

evseupgrade.com also sells many other adapters so that you can plug in almost anywhere!

    http://evseupgrade.com/?main_page=index&cPath=7

For 5 more days the Federal Government is offering 30% tax rebate on all EVSE equipment you purchase with a maximum claim of $1000.00, so you can spend up to $3333.34 and get back 30%.

I test drove the BMW i3 two days ago. Very Fun. Very Fast. Nice BMW features.

I like the ability to add the Rex 2CYL 650CC Engine.

Saw another LEAF today in NYC while stuck in Traffic!

I got up to him and we both started talking about the LEAF. He's using it for work but he said he Loves it!

For me it's just a win win situation.

Actually I'm at a client now in Brooklyn that I could not get to on Friday and I guesstimated I would have 68 miles remaining when I get here but I have 70.

When I approached the Holland Tunnel from the NJ side there's a very big hill. At the top of the Hill i had 75 miles remaining. In the middle of the tunnel I had 78.

I gained 3 miles because if the hill. Pretty damn cool.

The cost of the eleltricity should be around $750 for the year. I used to pay $3000 a year in gas. Still a win win situtation.

For me it should work out pretty good. For others it may not. Very Hot or Cold area will have Diminished battery life.

As per the minus 30 dsgrees question. I've never seen minus 30 degrees in NJ. I've seen -20 once in like 1983.

The car's computer can be programmed to turn on 30 mins before you leave for work to turn on the heat and the heated seats.

Then when you unplug it the car is warm and your battery still have 100% of its range.

Vice versa applies for the summertime with air conditioning.

sounds like a sound purchase and a great amount of money saved on purchase price and on gas saved.. i hope to be buying a new car during 2014. maybe i should look into a electric/hybrid car.

I just hit 9900 miles, 9 months in the LEAF. I am Very Happy with the LEAF. Cold weather can be a pain, it shortens your range. If I lived in NC I would buy a LEAF for sure.

In the past 9 months I had to charge outside of my house 7 to 10 times, I can't remember exactly. Basically once a month I take a 133 trip to my longest distance client. So I have to charge there at their location. They have a Nissan Dealer 3/4 of mile from their office. I drop off my LEAF and charge there for FREE. I walk to my clients office. 3 hours later when I return the car is fully charged!

In 27 years that I've been driving the LEAF is the most fun I ever had!

    Toucanet,

Are you taking advantage of the night-time GA power program that costs 1.3063 cents per kWh ?

    I'm paying 10.5 cents

It'll cost you around 32 cents to charge up the LEAF, in your climate you should be able to get 90 miles range with no problem.

    Sal,

Absolutely! It was a very wise choice to participate in this program. I also have my washer/dryer/dishwasher programmed to run between the hours of 11:01 PM to 6:59 AM since that is the timeframe of the lowest cost per kWh.

Here is the link for the program:
    http://georgiapower.com/pricing/file..._tou-pev-3.pdf

There are now seven locations in metro Atlanta that have the 480 volt charge stations. The infrastructure is growing here.

My LEAF has a 6.6kWh charger on board, So I can charge my 24kWh Battery in 3.63 Hours from Zero % to 100%

I've only got the LEAF down to Zero % once in 9 months. Usually I have 20 to 40 % left when I get home at night.

Each Nissan Dealer has (3) Level 2 Stations.

That's AWESOME!!!!! - This Electrical rate and the extra $5000.00 that GA is giving back are the reasons the LEAF is selling like Hot Cakes in GA for sure.

And apparently you can now drive coast to coast (in a rather meandering manner) in a Tesla:

Yep i know about the Rimac, I'm saving my money up to get one!, LOL

Yes the Tesla charging stations throughout the USA is common knowledge for EV owners. That may be the one main reason I buy a Tesla next!

And then I will be buying 100% American!!!

And not sending any of my hard earned money to people in other countries who use the money to bomb us!

    Really ?

On May 19, 2009, Germany's Daimler AG, maker of Mercedes-Benz, acquired an equity stake of less than 10% of Tesla for a reported US$50 million.[108] In July 2009, Daimler announced that Abu Dhabi's Aabar Investments bought 40% of Daimler's interest in Tesla.[109]

Seems to me Abu Dhabi Aabar Investments doesn't sound too American .. LOL

So Germany's Daimler AG owns 6% now and Abu Dhabi's Aabar Investments owns 4%?

WTH does 10% of Tesla being owned by these two companies have anything to do with where your gas money goes when you fill up your Tank?

Can you tell me where your $50 goes every time you fill up?

Just hit 12,000 miles, I figured out that I have spent $439.00 in Electricity and Maintenance so far.

The Maintenance so far consisted of two tire rotations and 3 bottles of wiper fluid.

The Maintenance was just around $69.00 and the Electricity was around $370.00 which breaks down to 3 cents per mile.

Check out the arial video of the car show I attended this past weekend:

You can see my group of EV friends @ around 2:25

We had a Tesla S, Tesla Roadster, Zero Motorcycle, BMW Active E and (3) Nissan LEAFs. You can pick out mine because it has a Sunroof :)
