    Very cool!

Myself, I have not strongly considered an electric or hybrid but I have been doing a little math on them. So far I about sure my next car will not be another full sized sedan. So far I like the mid size Mazda6. It gets some of the better MPG in the class. Still not sure about the hybrids but Iak still researching. I really need to be working on my current car as we speak. Maybe later this year or sometime next year I will seriously look for a car.

My Wife's Toyota Prius C gets 58MPG but it's a very small car. I like the Chevy Volt. If you do less than 45 miles a day you could drive all Electric in the Volt and hardly ever fill up the gas tank. I know a guy with one and he fills up once every two months.

Yeah I do be about 60 mile total to work and back. I have a coworker that just bought a Prius that driver about 100-125 miles each day. We like to have fun on Fridays and usually do some type of physics Friday puzzle, question, etc. One Friday we started talking about cars and MPG. We looked at the new Chevy Impala that I like vs . the Chevy Volt. When you look at the numbers... Its tough to justify the cost of large sedans and SUV's. So, I think a mid size sedan Is practical for a family of four. I can see myself in the Mazda6, KIA Optima, Ford Fusion but I need to read more about hybrids. Not sure about those yet and all electric I really am not sure about.

As far as electric or hybrid....I wonder if my company would support a charging station? We are a renewable company, Fronius USA. We make Solar Inverters, Digital Welders, and high efficiency battery chargers In other markets. We just increased our solar system to four times its previous size.

Anyway, I will figure it out....even going with something like the Mazda6 gets about 10mpg on average vs. What I drive now.

Yes, that is becoming more and more popular as homeowner search for South facing space...plus panels are cheap. Solar is a great investment.

Check out our new Galvo and upcoming Symo interters...great values with these units with our version or dual power point trackers and built in monitoring, etc.

At 160k miles he should buy himself a new car, his 06 served him well. Let the college kid who buys it worry about the cost of a new battery which costs between $500 to $1000

OK....leave it to the Germane. The big wheel look yet lower rolling resistance by keeping the wheel narrow. 19" and 20" options....DUBS for Ev's! Looks nice? but $45k starting? I would take an Audi A6 TDI instead please!

Would like to drive some of these cars. I drove a Prius once, and I thought it was a nice car. I really want to drive the Volt and the KIA Optima hybrid.

Default Spare Tire installed with no Trunk space lost!

In August of 2013 I got a flat with my LEAF and I posted this story on the MyNissanLeaf forum but that forum has many problems and crashes at least once a month, So I'm going to move all my data that is there only to this Thread because the POLK AUDIO FORUM is AWESOME!!!!

The other night while driving home and taking a detour road I hit a nasty pothole and burst the front driver's tire:

So I called Nissan and they called a towing company, it was 11:30pm and the estimate arrival time was 2:15AM!!!!!!

So while waiting for the tow truck I went on ebay and bought a jack and spare tire.

A couple days later the jack and spare arrived, The spare is pretty thin, it was $125 shipped and the jack was $45 shipped.

I had these people http://holdfastordie.com/store/tool-bag make me a custom made heavy duty canvas bag that is 8" by 20" long that

will hold all the jack tools and the jack and will be rolled up and stuck inside the fix-a-flat compartment. (do you guys know that the 13 Leaf does not have the clips anymore to attach a jack to the car, they removed it entirely)

My plan was to put the spare tire in the trunk with my new car stereo layout:

Then I figured let me test out the spare before I do any additional work, I started to lift up the car and

when I removed the wheel I saw this gigantic void under the trunk floor! Damn i can put a spare in there with no problem.

But I did not want to remove that air diffuser. So I'll have to cut a flap out and hinge it so I can fold it down to remove the spare when needed.

Two original screws keep that flap in place and it looks great and now I have a spare with no loss of trunk space.

Took me around 9 hours and $65 in screws, hinges, drill bits, etc...

The spare tire cost me $125 shipped on ebay and the jack was $45 shipped.

    So just about $235 total.

    Sal

And by the way that nissan leaf pump and flat fix got tossed into some cabinet in the garage this morning, it's not going back in the car. It's a total joke!

My next door neighbor suggested I should add some grease to those 3/8" bolts that hold up the spare tire, so I just did that and I added one more touch, I removed the factory screws and added two security hex screws.

    Check out the pics:

The pouches just came in. The jack, both tire irons, tow hook and hex security Allen key all fit very nicely.

I wonder if I should include anything else?

You get $7500 back from the Fed Gov with the submission of your taxes for the year you purchased the car, If you owe taxes then the $7500 will go towards that amount. ( I owed $11,393 and $7500 was deducted from that amount), If you owe nothing you will receive a check for $7500

Plus Indiana has these additional EV benefits:

Plug-In Electric Vehicle Charging Rate Incentive: Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL) offers special plug-in EV charging rates for residential and fleet customers who own a licensed electric or plug-in electric vehicle.

Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment Credit and Charging Incentive: NIPSCO's IN-Charge Electric Vehicle Program offers a credit of up to $1,650 to purchase and install residential EVSE, as well as free plug-in electric vehicle charging during off-peak hours.

    Hello All,

Today I started my Stereo Install (08-30-2013)

    1) New Tweeters in the Pillars
    2) New Drivers (Polk Audio MM6510's up front and MM650 in the rear)
    3) AudioControl LC2i (takes the high-level speaker output and creates Sub-Out, Pre-Out & Turn-On Remote, Also has patented tech that keep Bass constant even if Leaf HU decreases Bass at high volumes)
    4. (2) JL Audio Amps - XD400/4 & XD600/1
    5. All new speakers cables run from trunk to each door and sub.
    6. JL Audio HO110-W6v3 (600 Watt Sub!)
    7. Dynamat at each door
    8. All wires Power, Ground & Speakers are from KnuKonceptz.com
    9. All Power Distribution blocks and fuse holders are also from KnuKonceptz.com

Today I started running the power cable, I chose Orange to match the LEAF's high voltage cables.

I installed the New tweeters and the MM6510's in the Front doors, I used 3SQFT of Dynamat per door.

Tomorrow I need to run the back speakers and hook everything up in the trunk.

Here's a Quick layout that I drew up on how I will lay out my gear in my trunk:

Here's a video of the sub I bought:

Default Review - EVSE Angled J1772 Wall Mount Dummy Inlet

This post was originally created on Nov 23rd 2013

    Hello All,

Last week I bought a Angled J1772 Female wall mount so that I can keep my EVSE charging cable off the ground.

I bought the unit from this site: http://erroneus.myevblog.com/buy-plastic-parts-here/

This thread contains more info: http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopi...art=30#p336985

This is the MNL Member I bought the Dummy Inlet from: http://www.mynissanleaf.com/memberli...profile&u=3642

It's a nice sturdy product with a notch so that the J1772 connector clips on and does not fall out.

The only suggestion I would make is that he add White as an option.

My goal was to camouflage my EVSE Cord so that when you are driving by my house it mixes in with the color of my garage. My garage is white and so I bought white duct tape to cover the black cord. From the street the only thing that still stands out is the Gray Dummy Inlet. I might paint it.

Here's some pics of my Install:

Default Bought an HD Dash Cam for my LEAF - Check it out here...

    Hi All,

I bought a Dash Cam that was recommended by TECHMOAN, Not sure if you ever seen his Video reviews but they are very informative.

Honestly I really don't know if I need a Dash Cam. I just bought it because I like gadgets. The thing I didn't want to do was buy a crappy one so I've been watching this Guy's reviews for a year until he found a model that he said is the one he's going to keep in his car.

    This is the Unit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI...m=331062684569

Mine comes with a Built in GPS and I also bought a 32GB micro SD card as well.

I bought mine from an eBay seller in China and it took 3 weeks to show up. It looks like now that there are sellers in CA and that the camera has gone down in price :(

I just got it today, I charged it and I'm going to watch the video again (because he goes through all the settings) and then I'm going to mount it tomorrow.

I will post back with my findings and pics of how it looks installed.

Check out the Video review Here:

Do you already have a Dash Cam in your CAR?, I'd like to hear why you bought one and if you use it all the time?

Just hooked up the Dash Cam in front of the rear-view mirror. I ran the power line under the ceiling liner and down the windshield all hidden and out of sight.

The Cam has a Motion mode that will record as soon as it detects motion for 1 minute. the bad thing is that the internal battery only last 10 mins (which the reviewer states) I'll need to test it out.

But I am planning on running a direct connection from the 12V battery to keep it on all the time. I also would like one in the back. Going to test this one first up front and if it works out well I'll get another one.

time to go for a drive!

Here's one 1 minute video of me pulling out of a poorly labelled handicap spot and moving to a non-handicap space.

    Thanks,

    Sal

Wow, very nice! Thanks for the info. Man, I'm just not sure I'm ready to go all electric. I will keep researching....who knows...I might end up with a hybrid. Gas is already creeping back up to $4.00.

    Default Door Magnets

I go to many car meets/shows every weekend and I keep getting asked the same 15 questions and usually I print out 8x11 sheets and tape them to my car but that is getting very old very quick so I just ordered (5) 12" by 24" Door magnets to attach the my LEAF while at car shows/meets

I got them from www.BuildAsign.com they came out $178 for 5 shipped and I got them in 7 days. They are 0.045" thick.

Lasareath, nice job on the spare. It looks like you had used locking nuts on the bolts going through floor/back bed but did not use locking wing-nuts to secure the tire. Did you use locking wing-nuts or am I just not looking correctly?

I did not use locking wing nuts. As the wing nuts get tighter the closer they get to the indent of the wheel and that indent keeps the wing nuts from spinning. you have to rock the spare back and forth in order to unscrew the wing nuts.

This weekend I got rid of my Old Gas Car. It sat for 15 months in from of my house and I used it 4 times, two times to pick up furniture from craigslist.

The Battery was completely dead, I tried to have it jumped with no luck and so i had to buy a new Battery. We gave the car to a friend of ours that does not have a car.

After I bought the battery and hooked it up the car started up on the first try.

I also did not need to buy Gas! :) it still had a 1/4 tank and it got me to Her house which is 29.8 miles away fine. I singed over the title and took the plates.

The whole front end was rebuilt from Hyundai for free, The tires had only 3K miles on them, A tune-up was just done, the rear brakes had 300 miles on them and the front need to be replaced in 15K miles.

The Car is at 156K miles, Every 60K I installed a new Timing Belt and Water Pump. I told them they need to do it at 180K miles.

Now I will be saving $93 a month on my insurance by taking it off my policy!

    Question......

You say you saved 2-2500 bucks by not buying gas.....add up what you spent on all the add ons, sunroof, bumper guards, spare tire and jack, dash cam, and additional electricity costs. In the end, you basically saved zilch.

BTW....Those "starve a terrorist" signs are pretty silly. You do know we buy less than 10% of our oil over there, right ? If we bought none, you really think you'd starve them ? You also know oil is used to produce electricity too, right ?

Glad your diggin' your new car, but the other stuff is over the top.

$2000 every year adds up, If I drive the car for 8 years, that's $16,000 Saved by not buying Gas.

The Fed Gov gave me $1350 to install my EVSE.

I didn't pay taxes for the car, that was $2800 I didn't have to spend. If I bought a Gas car I would have spent that.

All the following stuff I would have installed even if I bought a Gas car,

Sunroof $1123.00, Bumper Guards $120, Spare Tire $245, dash cam $135.

The additional electricity is $35 a month, which is better than $167 in Gas per month.

So i'm still ahead of the game.

You didn't mention my Stereo, Is that not included in your expense list? I spent $2800 on the stereo. So I really didn't save anything huh?

We import 55% of the oil we consume: http://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.cfm?id=727&t=6

    So you're not so bad, you're only 55% Anti-American.

The Terrorist Banners are made to illicit a response from people, wether negative or not. Because I like to get a rise out of people. It worked for you. You had to post in my thread didn't you? Thank you for keeping it alive! LOL

The link you want is http://www.eia.gov/energy_in_brief/a...dependence.cfm

Much less dire than you suggest Sal.

I drive a truck. It's a newer model and modestly fuel efficient. I envy your savings/effiency. But in a serious crash, you would likely be brutally injured or worse, and I'll likely be just fine. Just another dimension of physics. I'll take the safety over the effiency.

I know you like to get a rise out of people Sal, but that's not why I posted in your thread. Yes we do import the majority of our oil, but from the likes of Canada and Mexico. You know those crazy terrorist Canadians is something you should be warning people about.

Electric cars are cool if your intended purpose is to save a buck, who doesn't want to save a buck ? However if your masking that as..

    A. Your going to put big oil companies out of business
    B. Starve terrorist
    C. Somehow save the planet

Then maybe a check-up is in order with your doctor.
