    Ambiophonics,

Hyundai is honoring the recall even though the car is 11 years old?

Can you send me whatever info you have?

Maybe I can get mine fixed too!

    Thanks,

    Sal

I expect to read a thread in a couple years or so that you have to sell off some equipment to pay for repairs on this automobile.

The cars you have had in the past are/were junk and this one fits right in that category. Buy cheap poop and that's what you end up with.

My Chevy Suburban has a couple hundred thousand miles on it and runs terrific and looks great. And 5-6 years ago gas would cost me 50% to 60% less than today.

Sal good luck and I do hope it works out for you guys. I do understand all the warranty BS but don't count on it.

    Hey Sal,

I'm out on the deck currently enjoying a brew but will PM you some details in the next day or two. It isn't "warranty" it's actually a recall which means Hyundai is legally obligated to provide whatever remedy they came up with to you. Details to come via PM.

Well I made it fine, From my house to Brooklyn with 70 miles left in the battery and then home again by 10:00pm with 48 miles left in the battery. The Battery was still charged at 52% when I got home.

Here's a Quick pic I took of the center console while waiting in traffic:

And Here's a Picture of the Trees I made during my trip:

Actually I made one more but I forgot to take a picture of it.

Here's the Charger I'm looking at buying. My Neighbor is looking to see if his company can get it at a wholesale price.

    http://www.leviton.com/OA_HTML/Secti...minisite=10251

This charger uses a plug that is designed to be plugged into the same receptacle that is used for an Electrical clothes dryer so then if you have to you can bring the charger with you and have the greater chance of having some place to plug it in.

This website has for sale adaptors that can used to change the plug so that it fits in all various style plugs that you can find at all different places, like Hotels, Camp grounds, etc.

Thanks. The one option this car does not have is the Bose 7 speaker system. I actually wanted that.

    http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2002/...antra/recalls/

The recall for the control arm is the last one on the page -

    Recall ID # 87634 - SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM

Click on "full details" for all the info. If you go to Hyundai they can down VIN search and tell you what recalls have been completed on your vehicle and take care of any that haven't been done yet.

For the recall, I have a 2003 Honda Pilot and I get a recall notice 2 weeks ago. They did fix it for free ( I didn't know anything was wrong with it but I still look it in)

I hear there are going to be charging stations along I-95 (and more planned in the future on other interstates) which make long distance travel possible with the Leaf. And more and more hotels are going to have them too. Just have to stay 1 night and the charge is free.

There are two Warranties on the battery. One states that the battery will work for 8 years or 100,000 miles whichever comes first.

That was the original warranty and for some people it wasn't working out because they claimed that being in extreme heat the battery was losing bars. The 2011 to 13 leaf Battery has 12 Bars in the instrument panel in the car. Each Bar is good for around 7.5 miles.

These people who live in the mid-west/south-mid-west USA were having issues where the battery (because of heat) was not charging all the way up anymore and then their range was diminishing.
So Nissan came out with another Warranty that states for 5 years or 80,000 miles that battery will never fall below 9 bars. If the battery falls below 9 bars and cannot be charged to 9 anymore they will “fix” the battery so that it goes back up to at least 9 bars.
Basically they will remove a few faulty units and add a few new ones making the battery hold more of a charge.

So if you are at 43,000 miles and less than 5 years old and the Battery will only charge to 7 bars then they’ll fix the battery to go to at least 9 bars.

If you are at 76,000 miles and 7 years and it only charges to 6 bars you’re out of luck.
If you are at 76,000 miles and 7 years and it’s dead, won’t take a charge anymore then you’ll get a brand new battery.
But if the Car is at 80,001 miles and 5 years old and the battery only charges to 5 bars and you can still get 40 miles of range they are not going to give you 5hit. You’re SOL.

Nissan is coming out with New replacement battery pricing this June.
I said 2011 to 2013 above because the rumor is that the 2014 will have more range and a larger battery.

Would be interesting what the replaement cost would be if the warranty on the batteries runs out? Resale value will diminish as the years go by, nobody would want to buy a car that will or might need the expensive batteries replaced. No dealer would take it in on a trade in, probably not even Nissan

Was staying at the Meadowlands Sheraton (8th floor facing the city) and the wedding stuff was in Wood-Ridge. Sort of missing north Jersey again (only place on earth where you can drive like a total d-bag and still be one of the better drivers on the road lol)

My wife has the Prius, good to over 200K, probably because it's a hybrid and the batteries run down less. So you can run the Prius into the ground and just "junk" it! Why even bother with resale!

Just out of curiosity Sal, how long does it take to charge the battery from say 25% to fully charged ?

Costco used to have charging stations but yanked them out because nobody was using them.

Depends on which Level plug you use:

    110V Level 1 would take 12 hours
    240V Level 2 would take 3 hours.
480V Level 3 would take 30 minutes to go from 20% to 100%

The time it takes to recharge will cut into your trip time thats if you can get one that is not being used, wait in line. Will the stops have the fast charging stations? what will the cost be $$? Hotels don't give anything away for free. I don't think they will want to pay for a large hydro bill especially if more and more chargers are added. just saying
