Default The new XO's are on the way.

You guys finally got me off the fence on crossover mods, and I have ordered all the parts needed to build me some new ones. Sonicraft will have everything here by Monday and the new connectors from Mauser a couple days later. I am excited to see/hear the differences. Are there any words of advice or other things I should be looking at while I am building the new boards?

    Congrats!

Keep the layout clean and the connections as short as is reasonable.

Do you plan to replace the inductors too? I recommend that, including the SDA inductor.

I will get to them eventually. I think I would be better served by building a Dreadnaught first.

Well.. the new crossovers are in. A HUGE THANKS to Gimpod for creating these new boards, as without them, These new crossovers would have been a complete mess to deal with, and his instructions were idiot-proof. I did not take pictures of my work, as these upgrades have been well documented here already.

They have been playing for about 4 hours now, and the sound continues to get better and better. The best way I can describe what I am hearing now is that music comes from the speakers with a proper sense of urgency. They are more focused, faster, tighter and detailed without being forward or bright sounding. Things are becoming more open and spacious, and instrument placement within the soundstage is becoming more precise.

The old crossovers, though good for their time, made the speakers sound rather tired and lazy compared with the speed and control the new ones are delivering. My understanding is that these XO's continue to improve over the next 200 to 300 hours, so if they are already sounding this good, the next several weeks should be pretty fun indeed.

My experience with burn in of sonicraft/mills is that I heard significant changes at around 30 hours, 110 hours and maybe a little more subtle improvement at around 200 hours. Probably the biggest change was at 110 hours.

Re: the Dreadnought, I agree. That's one of the best mods I've done, with installing Black Hole 5 a close second.
