    Cool New Can UE 6000

Well I've going back and forth between some $2-300 cans trying to figure out what I wanted to try as a change up to the B&W P5. I've been seeing some good reviews out there for this can and it was on sale this week at Best Buy and i had $10.00 rewards so I thought I'd give a whirl. Here are some pictures.. I'll give my impressions on the sound in probably a few days as I put through the paces I normally do for my P5s as my lunch time can for work.

Finally got a chance to sit down with these and compare them directly with my B&W P5s. The UE 6000 is the better headphone. Its clearer, is more natural sounding, and more balanced headphone. I'll be honest I don't do a lot of critical listening on my closed headphones b/c most of the time its some background music played on my Iphone (320Kpbs mp3) to block out others and the TV at lunch and most days the P5 keep me bopping my head along with it while i'm on the break room PCs.

Sitting at home with both of these this weekend I was able to compare the two. Most of my comparing was done using the included headphone splitter provided by the UE6000 so i was able to pick up each headphone w/o stopping the music to get immediate impressions and comparisons.

The biggest thing to me was the naturalness and the balance of the UE6000. voices sounded more correct. percussion has more feel, better decay, more authentic sounding. There was also much more bass, punchy and full, in the UE6000 and not overwhelming by any means. Just that my P5s were usually bass lacking. If you've been on Innerfidelity, the proper frequency curve would look more like the first set of P5s he had rather than the second set. While I never really noticed it before, the P5s actually can get a little muddled in more congested parts of songs. The P5 has a more forgiving and euphonic sound as I've never had anything sound bad on the P5s but when compared to the UE6000s there is a definite unnaturalness to them imo.

The UE6000 is still a warm can w/o a ton a sparkle at the top end, but that doesn't bother me as I prefer a rolled off top end on my cans, but it still creates a nice separation of the instruments and doesn't seem to get as bogged down when there is a lot going on.

If you couldn't tell the UEs will be moving into the main lunch time spot as my headphone of choice. They are definitely bigger and bulkier than the P5s and don't necessarily look as classy, but the sound is what matters and I can say that this $200 can is better sounding than the $300 P5s.
