    Default Need advice ASAP

Hey there, I just found a listing for a pair of SDA2 in the minnesota area and the seller is asking $70 for them. I was wondering if that is a good deal for them, or if it is worth going lower? If so, what price should I try to get them for?

My set up is denon 1912, 3 Polk Monitors 70s (one as the center), and two monitor 50s.

    Thanks,

    Marc

Run, do not walk and get them. You are virtually stealing them at that price.

Going price depends on the specific model. For a SDA2A ~ $150, for a 2B ~ $250, assuming decent condition.

You should read up more on SDA's if you want to integrate them into your HT setup. They are primarily a 2 channel listening system.

They are SDA2A sadly. I don't know if I should jump on them or not for $70. I mean, if someone wants these here I could buy them for you too! Just would like some more advice before I decide to buy

For $70 why not just try them out? If you don't like them you could easily flip...

+1. I agree. Unless when you go see them it looks like his dog has been gnawing on them for years.

You should be able to get the same or more than what you paid, it's only $70 though so even worst case can't be that bad.

True, I guess the only thing has me hesitant is that 1. Im a college student 2. I just bought 2 monitor 70s from polk 3. I already had one monitor 70 and 2 monitor 50.

I might go for them, but he doesn't have a receiver to test them with... soooo ya.. also, how much is that rebuild going to cost generally?

$70 for any SDA model is a great price and a no brainer. Go for it and grab them asap! You will not be sorry. SDA is another whole world of sound!

One thing to keep in mind is that the SDA 2A are 4 ohm speakers so you will need a receiver/amp capable of running 4 ohm speakers.

But, run and get them now and worry about anything else later. $70 is a steal for any SDA speakers!

Also pull the grills, and check all the drivers carefully. All woofers should move in and out freely with no rubbing. Check the rubber surrounds for cracks or tears. Same goes for the PR, make sure it moves freely, and there are no cracks or separations. Check the bottoms for water or moisture damage. For $70.00 I'd be out the door already, if they were near me.

I am just about to pick these up, but having second thoughts now only because the seller is being very fishy about what he is saying about them.

Can't hurt to check them out. If you don't like them, you can always walk away. But for $70, and if they're in good shape, that's a heck of a deal.

I do not agree. My HT never sounded better as when I added 2As as fronts in my 7.2 system.

I have yet to go get them. The seller is being very difficult and doesn't have a receiver to hook up but wants to meet in a public place, so even bringing my own receiver doesn't seem possible.

If you have an Ohm meter you could at least look at the terminal readings to get a very basic idea of what kind of electrical shape they are in. You can also slowly depress each of the drivers to make sure the cones will move and there is no scratchiness in the voice coils

I know it's a tough call buying speakers without being able to hear hear them first as you have to gauge whether you can trust the Seller or not. I have done so and have been lucky so far but I always ask lots of questions and get an idea of who I am dealing with first. But, for $70, personally I think it would be worth the risk. It is at least worth going and taking a look at them in person and seeing what kind of shape they are in.

First Send back the damaged monitor 70's then...
Man $70 is nothing... nothing even if they are a little bruised up.
You can flip them for twice that easy unless they are bad .
Seller is probably irradiated because he got them real cheap and wants
    to unload them fast.
It's like free puppies do you want them or not, don't waste my time

I know people have said to push the cone and see how freely it moves in and out. Besides that, the only other thing I will be able to test is looking at the product itself and seeing any damage with my eyes. That is because the seller doesn't have a receiver to hook up the speakers to if I went to his house and he also wants to meet in a public place, which is hard to find an outlet in a public outdoor place. Which if there was an outlet, I would bring my receiver and speaker cable for it.

Now it is time to place the IF game.
    1. If the speakers are a little dinged up, I'm assuming $70 is still a fair price?
    2. If the speakers scratch/scrap when moving in and out, what price is a fair price or even is it worth purchasing?

Oh and since they are 4 ohm speakers and my receiver is a 8 ohms rating, could I just wire the speakers in parallel and it would be rated at 8 ohms?
