    Default Marantz SR7005 won't play 192hz FLAC's?!

This was a disappointing discovery! It was easy to assume that their top of the line AVR touted as being all sorts of musical would play anything! Especially since I just dropped $150 on HDtracks.com!!!

Upon further research it appears Yamaha's mid-range RX-A1020/30 will play 192hz FLAC's? If I want a Marantz to do that I have to step up to the AV7701? Ugh. No thanks.

    And I just bought a Panny DMP-BDT220 because I thought I didn't need the 192/42 DAC's in the BDT500. Boy was I wrong!

Marantz, I want my cake and I want to eat it.

    Sincerely, me.

Sometimes companies use there Brand name to make you think that you are getting "the Best" I am highly skeptical of most every company (China) these days. Tell us, will it play them at all? And if so at what rate.

Please see page 29....looks like 96 is the max

I was thinking of buying a Marantz until I saw the Costco sale for the Pioneer SC-1522-K for $599.99, which by the way does states it play FLACS / 192hz.

I've never owned a Pioneer AVR, and I am very happy with it! I still want to get a Marantz just because I like the way it looks lol. I might get a lower model for the garage.

You're better off using an external DAC and going analog out to the Marantz anyway.

Problem is with most processors, unless you are running everything as large, this will cause two additional conversions so it can do bass management. Unless the Marantz does that in the analog domain, which would be unusual in this day & age.

We're talking music here, right? Should be Direct anyway. All processors off: EQ off, DSPs off... 2-channel only. If you're not running it pure like this, then there's no point in playing 192khz files in the first place. My 2 cents.

And even if you were running it pure like that...

There's a reason a lot of folks have separate music setups and HT setups... because HT gear is not optimized for ultimate fidelity. No benefit in running a 192khz file through a receiver if you ask me.

True, but not everyone has the room or coinage for both. You can get good sound for music from an AVR, I wouldn't poo-poo that idea, but surely a separate 2 channel rig would be best for overall sound quality. Like everything else...it depends.

Tony I'm not poo-poo'ing the use of a HT rig for music at all. I do it all the time, and I love it, and I think it sounds EXCELLENT... highly enjoyable! I'm just saying it's not high enough fidelity for me to care, or even notice, if I'm playing a 192 or 96 or 44.1 file. The difference is not appreciable... especially if you have DSPs and EQs enabled on the receiver or pre/pro.

I'm just sayin' that dude shouldn't be stressed about no 192 capability on the Marantz because it doesn't matter anyway. I could see it mattering if he had certain albums ONLY at 192 and had no way to play them; that would be annoying for sure. I don't know what his source is for these FLAC files, but if it's a PC, he could just set his media player to output a lower resolution.

When I use my HT rig for music I actually DO use DSP's, EQ's etc for 5.1 channel playback because I like the surround experience, and I'm not overly concerned with ultimate fidelity in that rig... it's a "fun" rig, not a "critical" rig... which is why it doesn't matter if I'm playing 192's or 44.1's... as long as they're lossless.
