Between 1984 and our brave new world lies our current condition.

That has such people in't "

I have not done anything wrong. I have not broken any forum rules. I have not violated CP rules and regulations and I have not added political discussion to this thread.

While I would very much like to answer Mike’s questions today, I’ve been advised by the moderators to assert my constitutional right not to answer questions related to the subject matter of this thread. After very careful consideration, I’ve decided to follow the moderator's advice and not respond to any of the questions today.

Because I’m asserting my right to not answer, I know that some people will assume that I’ve done something wrong. I have not. One of the basic functions of the 5th Amendment is to protect innocent individuals, and that is the protection I'm invoking today.

    Cheers!

Keep giving up liberties in exchange for safety, and you'll end up with niether. This should outrage everyone. Cameras everywhere, the SCOTUS says yes to taking your DNA, your phones are tapped---does that sound anything like America to you? Yes, I'm well aware of the origins of the Patriot Act, and I didn't support most of it then.

You forgot smart appliances, smart meters. It's not so much the gathering of this information, it's what it will be used for or sold to. Europe is already using this technology to try and limit peoples power usage by turning off electricity at certain times or if you go over what is deemed appropriate. This comes down to data mining for control and new ways to tax people, nothing more, nothing less. The salesmanship though sings a different tune, the truth can be a hard sell if spoken.

So the question is, "where will it end". Cameras every 50 feet on public roads? Constant flying of drones overhead? 10X the police force on patrol. Biometric data required for entering public buildings and at road tolls? At what point is surveillance going to be enough for the government to do its job of protecting its citizens? At what point do they cross the line of too much?

Just food for thought... not looking really for answers since I have my own already, and I don't want to start something that will probably end up getting this thread closed.

100 years ago, their job was to protect the nation as a whole from outside threats, not individuals from each other. That job belonged to YOU. Even the local police were there to preserve order and not intervene in disputes between law abiding people.

Yes, I know I haven't posted in quite some time but have to say... Although not surprised, I am outraged by this; just wondering what's next.

Most who called this from the gitgo where labeled "conspiracy theorist nutjobs" or " Big brother tinfoil hat " wearers. On one hand it's nice to be validated, but on the other I sure wish that validation never materialized.

For me anyway, the questions are how do you stop it now....and once given certain powers, how do you take it back ? The way I see it, is only men of character and integrity in our elected seats can. Unfortunately for us, that's not too promising.

Along with stopping this nonsense, can we please get rid of the word, "Homeland"? It is straight out of a George Orwell nightmare.
