    Default New TSX550T advice

I have a 7.1 system consisting of a CS20 center, TSI200 for surrounds, Monitor 40 for front wides, PSW125 sub and 2 old realistic MACH 1 for the fronts. I drive these with an Onkyo 809. I want to replace the fronts with either a TSI500 or the new TSX550T. Has anybody heard the new TSX line? I want to be all polk in the HT room and sell the MACH 1's. Any help would be appreciated.

You may want to seriously consider adding towers from the Monitor series instead of the TSI/X speakers. Best to keep everything in the same family. I would personally look at the Monitor 70,s, but I'm sure others would disagree.

I agree with rpf65. The Monitor 70 is what I would also go with. Or maybe the Monitor 75T. No need to spend the extra money for the TSi 500. I have never heard the TSX 550T. The tweeter looks like the ones from the RTi series.

Go with Monitor 70s, they are well worth it and you keep everything of the same family

I heard the TSx line at CES this year. While my listening period was short (as will most at CES) I was unimpressed. For the money I heard a lot of things that to my ear were much better. Namely Wharfedale.

That said, I have not heard the monitor series, so my opinion may be completely invalid. :p

I have the RTi series, and if you can pick them up, do eet. Leaps and bounds over the TSx series IMHO.

You have RT and RTi speakers and your point is valid. They have bright tweeters to my ears. Maybe Polk is using same tweeters in the TSx series that they used in the Monitor and TSi series, with a different face plate.

    Default speakers bought

I ordered 2 monitor 70's and I will post how I like them. I want to thank you for your suggestions. I would still like to hear from somebody that has heard the TSX550T's as I have 14 days to send the monitor's back if I don't like them.

Polk seems to have changed voicing of the TSx series. The TSx 550T's sound won't match the rest of your speakers. With the money you saved going with the 70's you could buy a decent used multi channel amp. If you bought the 70's from Polk Direct for $375 that would leave you $625 for power amps before you hit the $1000 that two TSx 550T would cost.

I have had the Monitor 70,s for 3 weeks and I am going to keep them. They sound very good as home theater speakers which I use them 90% of the time. They lack the live sound with just music. They are sounding better every day and I might not be giving them enough break-in time. But for the price they can't be beat. I would still like to hear the TSX550T.

Good to hear! My 70's took over 200 hours to burn in. The tweeter was the last speaker to pick it up and sound good.
