I had just moved to California to go to grad school at UC-Irvine, but wanted to get residency first so I could pay in-state tuition so I was living all over the place as cheap as possible. I was driving somewhere on Hwy. 5 and listening to the radio when I heard "Shattered." It really blew me away. It was a cool punk song that signalled to me the Stones were not over the hill. The same way hearing "Things Have Changed" made me realize Dylan was not a worn out star when I first heard that on the radio in the 90's. Some Girls was a real good album, had the clever "Far Away Eyes" and "Beast of Burden." I was still disappointed that Mick Taylor had quit the band, tho. The only real lead guitarist the Stones ever had, and the best musician they ever had as well, IMHO. First full album with Ron Wood.
