    Default Sub Woofer Mystery

I think it's funny and interesting that when I was hooking up my Klipsch SW to my new Marantz SR 7007 I discovered there is no deciated LFE from the SW, which I knew, Just a left and right cable with RCA's. Then a dedicated LFE SW out on the Marantz. Not knowing how to deal with this I called Crutchfield and inquired about this. They are always very easy to deal with on the phone. The fellow I spoke with did some quick in service learning for me. Didn't realize that a SW is really only a mono connection. So he had me connect to the SW1 and then just dangle the one RCA. So just thought to mention, any ideas about any of this?

    Bob,

Not all subwoofers have LFE inputs. I have an Energy sub with RCA jacks and I only use the white jack with the subwoofer cable. I do not believe it makes a difference which color you choose.

+1 ^ I'm not certain that this info is correct, but I have read that you may get a Db boost if you use a female to RCA male connection from a single lfe out connect. Like I said, I'm unsure if that's a fact.

Bob, there should be no "Mystery" and nothing left to "dangle". Only one cable with an RCA plug is needed to be plugged into the sub out on your 7007. Then, as your RW12D manual explains, it should be plugged into the left line level input. Your sub does in fact have an LFE mode, which bypasses the internal low-pass filter. Since your 7007 will be doing the crossover filtering, the internal sub filter should be by-passed, so as to not conflict. This is done by pressing the right cursor key until "Low pass OFF LFE Mode" is displayed.

John, et. al. yes you are correct as I am finding. Also wondering if I am really needing a sw at all given this LSiM set up. The only speaker that it seems to matter is the center. Could be I still need time to break them in and learn how to tweak the sub's to my liking.

John is spot on. The newer Klipsch subs from bottom to top of the line use the left RCA to double as the single LFE input.

For the music side of things, the sub will do little more than take some load off your AVR. It is a nice all around sub. HT on the other hand can benefit by adding more impact to sound effects.
