Default Any neat things in the Olathe, KS area?

I will be traveling to Olathe, KS next week with my 18 year old brother in law. He has a writers conference he is going to and his parents would like him supervised. Any good record shops, music shops, or cool attractions I should check out while in the area? While there I will also be checking the Craigslist listings in the local area. I will be there Monday through Friday.

Vinyl Renaissance is in Overland Park. Personally I think BBQ here is just ok, I prefer mine or Jack Stacks at the Plaza over the others here.

No much here on Craigs list as it is without foreigners piliging ;-)

As far as attactions the Legends up by the Nascar Track is out door mall that is good.

There is a reclaimed steam paddle boat made into a museum of sorts.

We have been here 11 months and have not ventured out a lot. Check out google for more ideas.

Thanks for all input so far! I promise I will not pillage to much, I may even try to add to it but I will post that in the correct section of the forum soon. How is Vinyl Renaissance prices and selection? Does any of the restaurants have a gluten free menu? My brother in law can not have gluten.

The Legends is definately a place to visit. Personally my favorite BBQ places to eat are Zarda's, and Famous Daves. If you like mexican food you cant beat a place called Ponak's.

I forgot about Ponak's, that place is great. Any place that has Margaritas on tap can't be all bad.

I will have to try Zarda's, and Famous Daves. Totally unimpressed with Overland Park Oklahoma Joes and Jack Stacks.

Wish my wife wasn't out of town this week (I have to take care of the stupid pets) or I would come down and show you around some of the cooler but more obscure stuff in the KC area. You really would need a guide to stay safe. Hehe.

My wife gave me the following photo scavenger hunt of her own making to fill in the time. I basically drop my brother in law off on campus and leave. As long as I return by lunch and dinner all is well. I have checked out the record store, will be going back friday, and talked to the guys at Audio Mart Service Center.

    5. Take a picture with the biggest statue of an animal at bass pro (will do Friday when I can make a purchase)
    6. Find the best bbq in the area according to the locals
    7. Get a picture of a stone barn
    8. Visit the heart of america, ("four")
    9. Visit a place honoring one of our presidents
    10. Find the children of the trails

    6. Jack Stack BBQ in Martin City (135th and Holmes on the Missouri side, 20 minutes from Olathe) or if you find yourself downtown, their location at the Plaza is close.

Completely second this. Although there are a few great BBQ places in KC. My *only* complaint against Jack Stack is their burnt ends...I mean it is a KC BBQ legacy...why can't they get them right?!?
