    Default New Blu Ray player?

I'm about to complete my new family room reno. I have a Vizio bluray and am thinking of replacing it before installing almost all new equipment in my soon-to-be-new cabinets. Is there a stand out under $500 that you would suggest? I've been so busy lately, I have not paid attention to what is out there. Thanks all.

Amended my response... Had a brain fart and thought the 103 was the 1k player instead of the 105. Been a long week already..

Another vote for the 103. Just got mine and I am happy with it at every turn so far.

Throw the Panasonic DMP-BDT-500 on the pile, very good reviews, quad Burr-Brown 192/24 DAC's. Reviewed as the Poor Man's Oppo 103, or if you don't have supporting gear to make use of the Oppo's better DAC.

Also read a LOT about how the picture quality is identical. Love mine so far, and to my ear the DAC is better than in my Marantz SR7005.

So what do the veterans here think: If I upgrade (from a cheap blu-ray) to an Oppo-103, am I going to marvel at the difference in picture and sound quality? As a relative noob, some of the finer intricacies of decent hardware tend to escape me.

Marvel depends on the individual I think. While I think you'll see a difference in PQ, Blu-ray via HDMI isn't going to have earth shattering differences between players imo. There are little things the Oppo does well, like work well out of the box and by the same token give you LOTS of adjustments to tinker with if that entices you. With 2 HDMI outputs you can go direct to your display with one if your AVR doesn't do 3D and that's something you require. But the 2 big selling points for me were the build quality (this thing is built like a tank, including the remote) and Oppo's famous customer service. Just my opinion

Another vote for the Oppo. If you are serious about two-channel music, then get the Oppo BDP-95 or the BDP-105. They use the ESS Sabre Reference 9018 DACs which are excellent. Last years model (95) is better than the 105 as one eight-channel DAC is dedicated to the analog outs, the 105 DAC does double duty with four channels directed to the headphone output which reduces the analog output performance a bit. The 105 also allows you to connect a USB device and stream music thru the DAC.

If you are not serious about audio, then the BDP-103 will suffice.

Are you using a projector? If you are, I would suggest the mentioned Panasonic player along with a Darbee Darblet. If not, then grab an Oppo.

I just replaced my OPPO 83 with the 103, I'm really happy. The picture quality from the 83 to the 103 is great. Even when I went from my panasonic BD to the 83 (in 2004) it was a huge improvement in picture quality. even the up conversion of standard DVD's is impressive. The 3D on the 103 is phenomenal of course I can only compare it to the sony I was using for 3D.

My vote is for the OPPO 103

    Adcom GFA 7500
    OPPO BDP-103 CD, SACD, DVD-A

    OPPO BDP-103 Bluray

Mine actually replaced my AVR while it was being repaired. My interconnects established connection between the 103 and my two amps, the remote has volume control and allows you to do speaker set up in stereo, 5.1 and 7.1
