    Default Wrigley Concert

Well, my first time to Wrigley will be for.............................a concert.

Leaving tomorrow to spend a few nights in Chi-town and catch a Pearl Jam concert.

I'm pretty stoked being a big PJ fan as this is not part of a tour, but one of two special concerts they announced for the summer.

With a new album announcement and the release of the first single...theres a lot going on right now and I'm loving it.

Now I'm just hoping that the forcast is wrong and we actually get to enjoy a whole show.

I know there's not a lot of PJ fans on this board, but I'm excited damn it!

    That is all.

You're gonna LOVE IT! Saw them a few times when they toured with Tom Petty a couple years back. They are one of the best bands I've ever seen live. The crowd will be fantastic also.

Vedder has been compared to Morrison as far as being a frontman....saw them when I was in the Seattle area about 90 with a little unknown band named Screaming Trees....killer show I might add...not as big a venue as Wrigley...but I'm sure you will dig it!

    Sooooo........

Gates opened at 5:30p. I got lucky and found a line that wasn't to long at around 3p. (I had GA tickets so we were basically in line to get into the pit and wait till 7:30p start time)

Made a mad dash as soon as they let us in and discovered that we were actually the closest entrance to the pit, so I got a spot just left of center 3 rows deep. Set was awesome...vibe was awesome.

(For those of you who don't care about PJ anymore (or never did) this was a special show that the band has really been building up. After we picked up our tickets at will call a scalper offered us 1k each for them!)

Band came on at 8:15. They played 7 songs and sounded great. All of the sudden, a guy comes out on stage and says we have to evacuate the field into the tunnels or up into the stands because severe weather is on the way. WTF!!! It was just before 9 p.m.

After some rain and lightning and then more waiting, most people thought we were going to be sent home. (Later found out that the Phish and Bjork shows also in Chicago both got cancelled midway through.)

However, we got back onto the field at maybe 11:45 p.m. (that was a debacle) But...I got the rail this time.

Now from what I gather...Wrigleyville has a curfew of 11pm and bands have to pay fines for every hour they play over (but I guess PJ was working with the Mayors office so who knows)

Eddie comes back on stage and does a special tribute song to the Cubs and brings Ernie Banks on stage (I got chills. Ernie says, "I want to thank you all for coming to my house.")

PJ then proceeds to play an EPIC concert full of deep gems and better versions of their standards until 2AM.

He said at the end that they needed to be off by 2 to "Not ruin it for other bands wanting to play there in the future." Come to find out they had 7 songs they cut from the list just to get off by 2.

What a night. The band was literally on fire. Best show of my life.

Think what you want about PJ, but I thought it was pretty bad ass for a bunch of 50 yr olds to wait out a severe thunderstorm and then play an epic show until 2 a.m.

    I'm still feelin it.

Tremendous, Wrigley field, PJ, and Ernie Banks.

I would have missed it though, I know I would have taken the grand and kicked myself forever.

Technically, my buddy was the one out of the two of us who won the fan club lottery, but I wouldn't have sold them either way.

Yeah, sounds like you got a truly epic Pearl Jam show. That's what I like about them, they lift their legs higher and do what the circumstances require. Lots of other bands would've just said screw it. I guess you named two in your post. And because you had the balls to wait it out you got rewarded with the rail. Glad you had a monumental time.
