Default Mutual Coupling: What is it and how does it work?

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum.

I've been doing a bit of research on subwoofers before I make the plunge and go for one and I am trying to at least get one subwoofer that can, or find a way of reaching the the 20hz bass range. After reading on the articles here on subwoofers it mentions about "Mutual Coupling", and that two subwoofers can in a way become one to create lower frequencies?

How does this work, is it only for DIY or can you place two subwoofers of the same model and brand together to make this work too?

It caught my attention because my budget is just a little over 200, but I can get another sub later on no problem if the "Mutual Coupling" thing is what I think it is

Inductors with current flowing have a magnetic field around them. Place them too close together and the fields start to effect each other. This is generally consider negative and is to be avoided. I don't think that what your wanting here.

Acoustic coupling is when drivers are within a half a wavelength of each other where they begin to couple and act as one source. Search for that term to learn more.

As seen on the AVS forum... "Radio Shack zip cord kicks butt."

Ahh I see. I had a feeling there was a catch to what I took it as :)

I'll look up the term but this time "Acoustic Coupling". I might get better results than what I got with "Mutual Coupling".

    Thanks..
