    Default Emotiva and LSi´s setup

i have LSi9/LSi7 and LSiC speakers system with a AV Sony DA2400ES (85W, 4 ohm). The true is i don´t understand why some people recommend me to buy a amp like a Emotiva UPA-700 (100W, 4 ohm) (the emotiva UPA 500 seems to be unavailable...)

would it be a right choose for listing music and movies? 25 watts of difference, is it enough? do I notary difference?

    thanks in advanced

The reason people recommend standalone amplifiers is to improve headroom. Your AVR is rated at 85 watts at 4 ohms with 1 or 2 channels driven. But when you connect up more speakers, that power rating rapidly diminishes. Fact is, with 5 speakers driven, I am willing to bet that you're only getting around 30 to 40 watts per speaker and your AVR is straining to do that.

Using a separate amplifier on the other hand, while still using a shared power supply in the case of the Emo, doesn't suffer this same effect as drastically. That is because the power supply is more robust, is more efficient and the amplifier modules just plain better. The Emo's rating of 120wpc at 4 ohms is with all channels driven. Which means that those numbers will be slightly higher with only 5 channels driven.

then, these specs in multichannel mode are theoretical?

    Sony DA2400ES
    (4 ohm 1 kHz, THD 0,7%)
    FRONT: 100 W + 100 W
    CENTER: 100 W
    SURROUND: 100W + 100W
    SUR BACK2: 100W + 100W

    thank you very much

Not even theoretical. Marketing BS is what they are. Virtually all AVR manufacturers rate their pieces as 1 or 2 channels driven to make them look bigger and badder than they really are.

It's not so much what those specs say....as what they DON'T say. Like all channels driven. Driving 4 ohm speakers with an AVR is pretty much risky business. 9 out of 10 avr's that claim they can drive 4 ohm loads, in reality, is simply engaging a safety to keep the avr from over heating by limiting current. Which 4 ohm speakers thrive on more current. Follow ?

U jave 30 days to try the amp out.and return it if i think it aint doing it for ya.. might be just enoigh but more power equalls more head room for dynamics. With that said 200 watts and up is what id be looking at
No idea why people arent saying go with a xpa-5. If u can swing it grab a xpa-2 and use that just for the fronts. Though the xpa-5 is prob all u need as i can just run a.set.of rear.channel speakers off ur current avr as they wont use much power as rears seldom do.

Lots of people say no home theater should be wothout a xpa-5!
