    Default Local repair shop

    Hello all,

A friend of mine has recently given me a McIntosh MA 6100, it seems to be in decent condition but there does appear to be some rust on the back of the unit by the inputs. When I connected the unit to a source the right channel was out, on both the main and remote speakers. I'm not sure if it is the amp or just a bad pot on the balance knob.
I would like to get it serviced but I am not familiar with any repair shops in the Baltimore/ MD area. Does anyone know of any reputable service shops in the Baltimore/ MD area? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Hello,
The schematic drawing shows 5.0 Amp fast blow fuses protecting the positive and negative rails of each channel. It is possible one or more of these fuses has opened up and could be the cause of the problem. Removing the perforated cover (with the power cord unplugged, of course) should allow you to check these fuses. To answer your question, I imagine Just Audio a repair shop on Harford Road could help, for McIntosh factory service The Gramophone in Towson comes to mind. I'm not sure about Soundscape, but it would be worth a call to: 410-889-1134.
    Regards, ken

Thanks for the reply Ken. I checked out the fuses and two of them were blown, so I replaced them but when I turned the unit on they blew right away. There must be a short somewhere, I will try to find it but I will probably end up giving Just Audio a call tomorrow.
