Default My fun with the SDA SRS 1.2TL

So it took a lot of self control to not blast a katrillion photos of this build as I am very proud of the outcome of it and am looking forward to the owners impressions and I know they are excited to have their speakers back in action! :)

This was a blast to build and very challenging when I arrived to the center wiring, very tight space...

    Specs -

Clarity Cap MR, Jantzen Inductors, Duelund Resistors

    Enjoy! :)

That looks amazing Trey!! That shelf mount is awesome!! But I still wonder about the air movement between the passive and drivers. I am slowly getting mine done, with the weather changing and all, my crossover cabinets will go to paint this week..

Did you ever get anymore wire back in stock?

    Thanks everyone! :)

This is my third "shelf" modification and so far no one has mentioned anything about reduced bass or a "negative" comment so to speak. This is the first one with an additional support towards the rear but there is still a lot of clearance around the sides, back and middle which should allow plenty of room to breath...

I ocassionally have stock but am always able to have items in 4 days or so! :)

    1. [Costello voice]Hey, Abbott![/Costello voice}

    2. If that is the "Abbot", then I can only imagine what the "Pope" must sound like. Infallible, I suppose.

    3. I'd have expected a grommet where the bundle of wires pass through the hole in the board. Is there still room to enlarge the hole and add one?

    4. Someone far beyond my electrical skill may have to comment about the parallel routing of the wires. Would twisted wires be better in this application???

The name of this was tricky, my first name had a few people laughing as it was borderline double meaning, the Abbot had a lot of "what does that mean"

The Abbot is the father of a Monastery. It seemed fitting...

I had several size grommets on hand and where it would have come in handy it would have required me to enlarge the hole which would have left very little material and hopefully after they are built the wires will not move anymore... :P

Those absolutely kick A$$ Trey! They look superb!

One question: Why didn't they (the customer) go with the "cast" resistors?

    Thank you sir!

The duelund resistors were not originally slated for this build. In fact almost none of this was slated for this built. Originally it was going to be a duplicate of the last one, MR tweeter, ESA midbass/SDA. I upgraded to all MR at no additional cost and about mid way through the build I threw out the Duelund resistor route and offered him a discount off of that... I sometimes do things more so just to do it than to make money, LOL. I am not a huge fan of building the same thing twice. My goal is to build the biggest, baddest crossover ever... if possible! :-P

That has got to be pretty damned close to the biggest baddest crossover ever Trey!

Edit: ALso, that is a very generous upgrade that you offered to the customer Trey!

Very nice work! Too bad it all has to be enclosed. It's a work of art

Wow...that is crazy cool. So for your next baddest XO ever...you need to switch from a "shelf" design to a "drawer" design. That way the customer can use a couple of quick disconnects to just slide the rail supported crossover out to show off the artwork. Or they need to ship with 11 x 17 autographed glossy prints suitable for framing. Maybe a photo silk screened over a custom bass trap. Just kidding...but very nice!

    Trey,

Again, beautifully done, and I bet the performance is phenomenal!

It's time to start enclosing your work in external, mahogany boxes with removable tops so that people can see what you do. Maybe some Lexan under the removable top to protect the components!

    Well done, sir!

    Thank you guys! :)

I actually have been working on a drawer concept with my fabricator the past few months of what may be the biggest mod ever (two subwoofer size crossovers) that may eventually trickle down to other modifications... :-P

External is always an option, I find most people do not want it so I never get to do it... it drastically increases cost.

    Thanks again guys!

    Thanks guys! :)

It is tough to fit ones like this in, it takes about 40 hours start to finish not counting the time spent with the fabricator, etc but it is fun!

Here are some pics of the rest of it -
