Default Denon AVR 5600 worth buying?

I know it's older technology but it's got tons of power for an AVR. I can pick one up, in supposedly like new condition (haven't seen it yet) for $200 with some surround speakers and a sub included.

I am using an 80WPC Yamaha RX-V373 to power a pair of Mariah Acoustics towers (don't know the model and there's not much info on the web for them). The speakers aren't getting the juice they need and I thought the 140wpc Denon would make a big difference. No HDMI so I will have to run my Roku and Bluray into the TV and then run a digital out to the receiver.

Anyone have experience with that model Denon? Any recurring problems with that generation Denons? I can get it Saturday but have to drive about 100 miles so it wouldn't be a problem to beg off if it's not worth the trip.

Personally, I wouldn't drive that far or spend that much unless the speakers were worth a significant amount on their own. I'm not that fond of Denon until the 38xx/48xx/58xx series.

Actually those series Denon sound pretty good with the Polk Rti and Rti-A series IMO. But yeah, that's REAL OLD TECH there. You don't even have multi-channel INs to use a Bluray player that can decode surround to analog outs?

I looked at some of the specs on that Denon. I don't see that it was much better than my current Onkyo TX-SR 805 which at least has THREE HDMI Version 1.3 Inputs.

Look for another model, either newer Denon or weightier Onkyo, Yamaha, etc. And by that I mean an AVR that weighs at least 40+ lbs if not 50+. Because that will have the requisite power of 130-140 x 5 channels you're asking for? And at least on that has MULTI-CHANNEL ANALOG INS!

Thanks guys. I will let him know I have to pass on it. He had other calls so i doubt he'll have a problem with it.

I had been looking for a used Pio Elite when I came across the Denon.

I think that is a little too old if you are trying to use in in HT
