Default AI-1 or Strap Negative Binding Posts?

I don't know a whole lot about how this works, but I have two B&K Sonata M200 monoblocks that I'm dying to try with my CRS+'s. I've read that you can strap the negative posts on some amps and that others require the AI-1 transformer.

If I can't strap these, where can I find resources for building the AI-1 transformer?

    Thanks gents!

This should give you the answers you are looking for. Some have reported improvements when using the Dreadnought.

Using the stock AI-1 or Dreadnaught results in better sound quality than strapping.

    Do a search for Dreadnaught.

The Dreadnaught improves the sound even with common ground amps IME.

Serious question, who's willing to build one for me?

Building one once you have the parts is pretty easy, but first you need to acquire the transformer and the enclosure. Avel stocks the 800V transformer, so no problem. You will need to check with Larry to see if he has any enclosures available. Do you plan on using binding posts or Speakon connectors? If Speakon you will need to have the binding post plate modified to mount the Speakon socket.

I just have so much going on right now that I'd rather pay someone a reasonable price to get one together for me haha. *cough* Jesse *cough* :P

At this point, I haven't modified the SDA connection on my speakers so it's just the pin/blade connection. Will this work for the Dreadnaught?

Yes, you can use the old cable buy cutting it in two, but while you're modifying going with the Speakons or binding posts would be a lot better.

And how! If you are building an isolation transformer IC, spend a little extra time and money and change out the connectors to SpeakOn. I changed my blade-blade SRS 2s to SpeakOn, and the physical and electrical connection is much better; plus it just looks bad ass...
