Question Any experience with Spica TC-50 speakers?

Got a pair of cosmetically challenged Spica TC-50 (I think from size) today to try them out.
What's your experience and how they compare with some of the speakers in my signature?
I need speakers like a hole in my head but heard these are good so they are in for a spin.

Stereophile has great review on these: http://www.stereophile.com/standloudspeakers/446
    thanks

I've never heard them personally, but I've only heard good things about those unique speakers.

They are great sounding speakers, they have all of the attributes necessary to enjoy music. There is a website dedicated to all of the Spica speakers (the TC-50 was the most popular) as well as a Yahoo owners group. As always with a little care in setting them up and good associated electronics and sources they can quickly disappear and play music as it was intended.

Thumbs up They are very good speakers...

    They sound very good.
One grill frame is broken in multiple places and taped.
Vinyl is peeling on all corners.
One corner is missing a huge chunk of wood probably by hitting something or falling down on the floor.
Some dings on the back/corner of cabinets and almost all grill pegs broken but all drivers work.

They sound very alike Boston A400's minus some bass. They are listenable without a sub.
Same tone as A400's as these also have slightly forward mids and crisp highs.
    Nice!

Since you've got them, what do you think of them?
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

They are remarkably good sounding speakers.

I don't like speakers where vocal is behind the veil and Spica is not that.
It's not recessed/veiled like most of other speakers. If you search my threads here, you'll find why I prefer Boston A400's over many others due to how open/airy they sound plus the amazing crisp highs and these Spica's are even more crisp and clear.
I like how open the Spica sounds.
Another thing I noticed is the vocals and music sound really clear even in another room across the hallway.
I played jazz/Saxophone and it really shines there. Very crisp and clear with great upper resonance and vibration.

I listened it without a sub and it is very listenable unlike the B&W DM110i that sounds harsh without a sub.
I then used an Energy e:XL-S8 sub and Spica sounded full.
I thought the B&W DM110i sounded clear and crisp but compared to Spica, they sound dull.

I noticed that Spica's have great stereo imaging/separation even in my not good setup.
I can stand right next to one speaker and stereo sounds clearly come from other.
In many not so good speakers, if you are right next to one speaker, it's hard to hear the other speaker.
I read that they image like no other speakers under $2k range when setup correctly.

One bad thing is if their mid woofer craps out, they are unobtanium.

Yes, but I also bought a single family house with basement and nice backyard for her now so it's all good.

I'm still moving things from townhouse but what a difference 'no neighbors' next to your wall does.
I already watched few action movies with KSP-400 as fronts and deftech as surrounds.
They each have built in 15" powered subwoofer and I can feel the pressure in my chest during explosions.
And the best part is, I don't hear bangs on the walls.

Good little speaker for it's time using off the shelf Audax drivers and a very unique minimum phase crossover.

Great pickup, Mystery. That sub will help tremendously, also.

I have a pair and love them. Once you dial in their placement they become almost 3D. I also find a sub helps tremendously. And for certain check out the Spice speaker enthusiast pages.

I lived in Charleston, SC in 1989. I went back and forth between a hi-fi store that sold SDA's and one that sold Spica's and subs. I finally went with the SDA's but it was a tough decision. I'd love to hear a set of Spica's with today's electronics and subwoofers.
