Default Austin City Limits (TV show)

Anyone from Texas ever go to the shows? I'm watching Queens of the Stone Age on ACL right now. I always enjoy watching that show and was wondering what their new stage/venue is like and how much shows cost to attend? Is the cost the same for all performers? Or is the price set by the individual artist?

Tickets are free, but it's a lottery to get a pass for a taping of a show.

I worked down in Austin during the mid 90s. Always wanted to go to a show, but never had the time to do it. Wish I would have.

Wow, I can't believe it's free. I like how they have all types of music/artists. Not just country music, or just rock music; Last week they had two Mexican-style guitar players. Not really my type of music, but they were amazing at what they could do with guitars.

    some things there are free,
but now most of the shows there, they're the standard ticket fare costs.
I haven't been to the new location at the fancy 5star "W" hotel. I'll get around to it in the next year or too, my daughter is of the age she'd enjoy it too( she plays bass guitar).

That QOTSA show was excellent. I always appreciate the wide variety of performers they have on there.

Yes, I really enjoy watching shows that introduce me to types and styles of music that I wouldn't ordinarily listen to. I grew up listening to AC/DC, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Van Halen, Journey, Hall & Oates, Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel, The Cars, The Commodores, etc. As I got older I started to listen to what would be considered alternative rock...Goo Goo Dolls, Oasis, Kings of Leon, Grace Potter and the Nocternals. I never really liked twangy country music. But did like Ronnie Milsap, Lyle Lovett, and a few others. But the last four or five years, I've really taken a liking to the less twangy modern country music. To me, it sounds more like rock music than the current pop music that is so popular today. I'm sort of curious as to what the old school country music fans think of the direction that country music has taken. Personally, I think it shouldn't be classified as country music.

edit: I wrote Grace Pooter, lol. She does have a nice pooter!

I suppose the country distinction is similar to the differentiation between "classic rock" and "modern rock" or "alternative rock". While I'm not a big country music fan, my family is from NC, so that's what dominates the airwaves there. I went to HS with Eric Church, so I'm biased towards his music, mostly b/c I knew him when he was a little kid. I'd agree, with his music especially, that it's nearly as much rock as it is country.

In general, most of the country fans I know back home like the new stuff and the old stuff alike. Akin to liking Led Zeppelin and then Tool as well.

In regards to ACL, I thought the Explosions in the Sky show was excellent as well, if you like "noise bands" of course.

Austin city limits has a nice verity,I first saw Amos Lee on there. Now I have all his CDs.

I have been listening to Country music for years, when disco came out I couldn't listen to it anymore. That is when I switched to country as for the new Country. Sounds more like pop to me.There are a few bands that are good.
    Just my .2 cents.

Taylor Swift is definitely pop! I'll never understand how she can be considered a country star. Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan have some country in their voices. They sound like country stars singing rock music. Soft rock may be a better choice of words. I'm not a fan of current pop music. And I think musician that lip sync during their concerts so they can "dance" should be tarred and feathered. Don't get me started on singers that use auto-tune software...as F1 would say...FAIL.
