    Default Eric Clapton's Crossroads 2013 blu-ray

Anyone pick up this BD concert yet? Just released this past week. Got my copy yesterday and I'm going to keep it...only because a lot of the music is so good and there's lots of it (40+ songs on 2 BDs). The video presentation here is absolutely horrible. A lot of the concert is dark (held at MSG this past spring) but still...grain is off the charts pathetic. Flickering is so bad in spots it looks like an old Charley Chaplain movie. Some of the close ups and interviews are acceptable, but there are huge chunks of this I consider unwatchable. I have over 100 BD concerts, this is easily the worst video of them all, including the Scorpions filmed in SD. Thought maybe I had a bad disc, but lots of pans over on Amazon as well. Anyway, if you're considering a purchase here, buy it for the audio, not the video.

Well that's disappointing! I plan on purchasing it at some point, though I'm less enthused about getting it now. I wonder what happened, as the Crossroads 2010 BD looks great...

Got it, but haven't watched it yet. The previous one is an example of how good a BR can be with video.

Interested in how you find it BF. It'd be nice to find out it's just the particular disc I have.

    Hello Red,

I hope it is your BR (and you can return it of course) cuz the Clapton's crossroads concerts are some of my favorites. I have the 2010 BR and the 2003 I think in DVD format and both are great sound and Video.

    Cheers

Here is a review by Home Theater Shack, which pretty much reiterates the issues I had. I was telling someone earlier I had picked up B.B.King's Live in Montreux for $9 on blu a couple weeks ago, this show is from 1993, 20 years old and the video (and audio) are pristine. Something like Crossroads recorded at MSG this year should not look like this. Partially my fault, I tend to blind buy concerts at times, live and learn I guess. Some great music on it though, my suggestion is plug in the BD, set up the audio, hit play and shut off your display.....or better yet, just pick up the CDs or hi rez d/l.

I'd like to clear up an error on my part concerning the video content on this disc. If you read my other replies, you'll note my disdain for the picture quality of this release. There is a review, as mentioned, by hometheatershack that also does not paint a good picture of the video portion. Recently, blu-ray.com did a review that wasn't too hard on the PQ, so it made me want to revisit things. I decided I'd try another disc, so returned my copy today and exchanged for a new one. Same problem, picture sucked. So I took the Crossroads disc out of my Oppo 103 and put it into my older Sony BX1 and the picture was, well, not so bad. What's up?

Since I bought the Oppo 103 9 months ago, I've been running the sharpness at +2 (old eyes). At that setting, I've never had a negative issue with any BD I've watched. Until now, that is. Don't get me wrong, Crossroads 2013 will never be considered reference video, but a lot of the background is very black, and some of the small anomalies that come from that background and this video presentation are exacerbated to the extreme by the +2 sharpness setting on the Oppo. Moving it to 0 has rid this of 80-90% of the issues. Anyway, the video presentation is not perfection, but I wouldn't let that stand in the way of anyone wanting to get this great concert, and the audio is a rush. I'd just like to apologize to anyone I may have swayed away from picking this up.

After I watched it on my Oppo 93, my opinion of the picture is similar. It is DVD quality, not Blueray. Music is great.

I got myself a copy, I have all of them, I can't say I have any issues with the picture. I haven't got to sit and watch all of it, but what I have watched was fine with me on my Oppo 83SE??

Is there any certain tracks I should watch for the issue??

Most of the concert has a grain to it that some find irritating for something this new. There is also an annoying light flickering around the perimeter of several shots, if you watch the whole thing I'm sure you'll see it on several occasions. Whether you find any of this bothersome or not is, of course, a personal choice. The audio, on the other hand, is top notch.

For concerts videos - I think I would prefer top notch audio over the video. Both are important - to be sure - but I can tolerate the video being wanting compared to the audio.
