    Default Getting Sick Sucks

I was working on Friday which isn't often as I'm usually off on Friday. The weather around here has been pretty crazy (South Eastern PA north of Philadelphia) and it went from in the 20's to now the high 60's in a few days.
I came down with a pretty bad head cold and have no energy , body is achey and this basically ruined my entire weekend off.
I usually don't get sick , maybe once every few years but when I do , It usually sucks pretty bad.

This weather is for the birds man, I want to move out West.

Good luck, and eat your chicken noodle soup. We can trade places. I am planning on buying my father's house on Maryland's eastern shore, The Land of Pleasant Living, and moving back in a few years.

    I feel your pain Dan.

Since Thanksgiving this has been how it's been for us.

Wife, child and I all got a 24 hour stomach virus. From there it I my got worse.

Wife got a cold, which became a sinus infection, and then bronchitis.
Skye got pneumonia, and is still spiking fevers.
I got a cold, followed by a sinus infection for the past 3 weeks.

Needless to say we have felt so bad we haven't yet unpacked our suitcases.

    Yes, Get Well Soon!

We got 8.5" of snow last night & with the forecast, it will be here until next weekend. - 3 F for Tuesday morning, high in low teens; wind chills down to - 20 Tuesday. With a slight breeze out of the NE, we get the aroma of the KSU feedlot here in our neighborhood. Had that Sat. Here's hoping the wind chill is out of the NNW.

Hang in there Dan! The drastic changes in weather tend to nail me also. I wish KC would just remain about 45 degrees until spring.

Why would you do that? The East sucks , I hate it more and more each year. They weather is so extreme here. Humid and hot in the summer, Cold as hell in the winter, fall is usually crapy and so is the Spring. You get a hand full of really nice days so I guess you really appreciate them when they do happen.

Sorry to hear all that man, I feel like I should be thankful it's just me. My family also doesn't get sick that often. Only my Wife gets consistent colds. My Kids over the last few years have been sick free. It's pretty amazing.

Whats funny is years ago I use to really like the cold weather. I liked the snow a lot and thought winter was a great time of year.
As I get older I now understand why so many move to warmer climates when they retire.

It's funny I preach to my kids to wear a coat anyway when it gets warmer like today which got to 68 degrees. I see so many people walking around in T shirts and shorts. Yeah I would love to rock that outfit but on the first day of winter. Not to mention we just had snow just last week and now it's 68 , go figure. I usually get around these things and don't get sick as I try to do the right thing when these things happen. This year it got me and got me good. My entire weekend was shot laying around the house , blowing my nose and feeling restless and achey. Looking on the bright side is I only have to work Tomorrow and I'm off Till the 6th of next year. Thats really nice.

I don't know why but it seems that every holiday season I hear about lots of people getting sick.

    Is it all the stress?

This year I came down with the worst flu I have ever had. Got it three days after Thanksgiving and nobody that I had any contact with was, or got sick. And the weather here in Los Angeles has been very nice so it's not the cold.

I sure was glad that I had a package of Tamiflu in the fridge. Got to get a renewal of that from my Dr.

Eh, it is what it is lol.....

I would rather move to the Smokies... It stays a decent temp there (or a temp I can handle compared to IN).... AZ would be nice dry and a moderate temp, but I just love the mountain cool and the TN/Western NC area.

Dan, I feel ya. I've had bronchitis three times this year. I don't think I fully recovered from my last bout 3 weeks ago and that same blasted cough is coming back now that the cold front is through.

anybody with sinus irritation inflammation i urge you to try the neil-med squeeze bottle w. saline water.

its available at any good pharmacy and walmart.

its just a squeeze bottle that flushes your sinuses out much the same way as a netipot, just more thoroughly.

it broke our cycle of irritation, inflammation, infection.

i cant remember the last time we had serious problems, and it is very soothing while waiting for a present problem to heal.

    Thats our experience, ymmv.

I do a lot of research with COPD/CB, Cystic Fibrosis and saline is a very effective treatment for sinuses and reducing bouts of acute exacerbations (bronchitis). For the latter it's nebulized and inhaled. Highly recommended for sore throats too.

Rubbing it in? We just got back north from a couple of VERY balmy days in Boston and I could barely get to my garage door without fearing for my life. The entire driveway is a sheet of ICE! Drove my car as close as I could and held onto it as I kicked the ice from the garage door bottom free.

The weather in Maine has been one deep freeze. And there were at least three accidents on I-95 on the last two miles of the journey--we're at the ICE line.

Hope you get better soon, Dan. I've been feeling ODD on and off for a week or so. One day my head, another my stomach, then my sinuses. It's a grab bag of weird symptoms, the kind your Doctor can NEVER diagnose and usually go away in a month, sometimes two--all by themselves as though nothing was ever there. Don't you just love getting "older".

I know what you're talking about Dan. When I see snow I go on "STRIKE". I refuse to deal with my steps and visit the P.O. once a month. Use the back door in and hire a plow guy who every time he sees 4" or more on the ground decides to bilk me for two plows instead of one. His DAYS are NUMBERED!

And I'm really, really, really tired of snow! Especially the kind that falls and REFUSES to melt till SPRING!

Where are those "cookies" that F1nut was talking about. I need a few!

Move to Colorado where it can be -20 overnight, a blizzard in the morning and 60 in the afternoon with all the snow melted.

chicken noodle soup is one of the best things for helping you through these sick times...

i think there were even some studies that showed that chicken soup broth etc.. had some properties that actually reduced either mucous or some other symptoms of colds//flu
