Default SDA CRS (no +) shifted magnet and burnt woofer Monitor 5 speakers magnet shifted

I own a pair of SDA CRS and a pair of Monitor 5 bought it 2 years ago (here in the Philippines). One of the speakers got burned
while the other its magnet shifted/misalinged-both of them has a marking MW6503. Same thing happened with my Monitor 5.

Any suggestion how to repair or restore them. Thanks.

By burned do you mean that the voice coil got fried? It would be good to know what your'e powering your speakers with. For most of us, a shifted magnet means a new driver must be ordered.

The MW6503 is available from Polk customer service. Not sure what shipping out to you would run, but you can call and find out.

I am using Denon AVR-681 at home, an old 5.1 receiver. Funny thing is i used my speakers during our christmas party in the office and plugged it on an onkyo tx-8511 2 channel old receiver, however, the amp suddenly got hot during operation. I discovered that my son interchanged the interconnect cable on the back of my SDA. Then I discovered that one of the speakers got burned
(i smelled it), and when i tested it with an ohmeter it has no response. The other speaker on the box has a scratchy sound. Basing on my monitor 5 speakers which has the same sound output, I knew the magnet on my sda shifted.

I will try calling Polk customer service.

Thank you for your reply sir.

That should be impossible to do as one blade is wider than the other, but from your description it seems your son found a way.

Are you referring to the driver or the entire speaker? If just the driver, it's cooked and cannot be repaired.

The other speaker on the box has a scratchy sound. Basing on my monitor 5 speakers which has the same sound output, I knew the magnet on my sda shifted.
The magnet cannot shift from hooking them up incorrectly, that voicecoil is cooked and that cannot be repaired.

    1. Yes, my son found a way of connecting the interconnect through a modified connectors.
    2. Yes, i am referring to the driver/voice coil, I opened the speaker and i found out that the coil was burned.
    3. The speaker is still sounding but has a scratchy sound. I inspected the the rubber and the cone seems all right.

I've seen/heard a number of Polk drivers over the years that had the dreaded scratchy sound, but the magnet was undamaged leaving only the voicecoil as the problem. Anyway, you will be able to tell if the magnet has shifted by looking at the back of the drivers.

Also, typically if the magnet has shifted the driver will "lock up" and won't move freely (or very little depending on the amount of magnet shift). As Jesse said, look at the magnet on the back of the driver and you should see the magnet is definatly moved in one direction and is not centered.

Also as Jesse stated, the voice coil is the typical problem when experiencing a "scratchy sound" from a driver.
