    Got shirts older than you...lol.

    Goes like this....wife says...

When are you going to clean out your closet ?
Get rid of all those old shirts you never wear.

    But they are cool looking.

You never wear them, throw 'em out.

But I have nice memories attached to those shirts.

Who gives a f$$k, throw 'em out.

Needless to say, I was forced to be relieved of my disco days wear and some lucky dude in a 3rd world nation will be going "wtf ?" when he opens that box.

eh gonna go audition a Marantz NR-1403...couldn't hurt. No plans on using the internal amplifier but for a pre/pro, it could work out well. We shall see.

That should work well for what you need it to do. HDMI...Digital inputs for the dac, front pre-outs for your amp, all the current processing. Give it a whirl man.

Yep, and lacks the glitz of the Pioneer, and it'll match the CD6004 too :)

Then move the 3490 into the bedroom and give the M5s a wake up call...lol

Thinking about this: why pay for amps you don't need or want? Just buy a pre/pro like this from Outlaw Audio:
    http://www.outlawaudio.com/products/975.html

    (Thinking about doing this myself.)

    Cheers, Jim

Plus if you ever want to add 2 more speakers for surround or 4 channel stereo, the Marantz has you covered without having to buy more amps.

Tony, while yeah, your right...but the 50wpc of the internal amps in the NR1403 would be seriously outclassed by the amp I have hehe.

Well, checked it out, nice little unit actually, not gimped on the core features whatsoever and actually was directly driving a pair of RTiA3s in the store (my request...). Nice full sound with great imaging for 50wpc. But we know it'll be feeding a much larger amp and reduced to pre/pro duties. Had easily accessible bass/treble controls that did make a nice dent in the sound output. Has all the inputs I need as well and then some for a small slim line receiver. Weight is heavy for it's size too and it's the same size as my CD6004 so I could stack them in the rack and see if I can get my TT back into it (WILL need a phono pre-amp once I get the replacement receiver).

No they didn't have any new in box in stock in my local store but they had a few in one that's between my home and my work, they called the other store and arranged a hold on it so I'll be picking it up on my way home tomorrow. No sense in wasting gas when I don't have to.

Frick...had someone told me I'd own Marantz a year ago I'd of said your nuts.

Had someone told me 3 years ago I'd be able to play at the level I do now, I would've laughed in their face. 845 monoblocks? I only saw those in magazines...

Give it a few years and you'll have a pair of cables worth more than your current rig. :)

D, I'm running an amp I never knew existed til I found these forums...that says a lot. I'm running a CDP I would of never considered in the past due to it's price BUT saw the light. I own speakers that far and away blow anything I've ever had before them. Honestly, my mind is open now and is sucking up as much knowledge from people on here and in stores.

Lets just say I've become enlightened.

That would explain the glow when you walk down the street...LOL.

The world of audio is so vast, many don't even know it exist beyond what big box stores offer. Kinda like fine wine, once you taste the good stuff, it's hard to back to drinking wine from a box.

That's what make the "elders" so important around here; their experience and, sometimes, their wallets, are DEEP and you're always surprised at what they can pull out of them!

Well, the NR1403 lasted less than a week, back to the 3490 as the header for the system. Oddly enough it's more flexible for the way I want things to go.

With that said, the sound was warmer, deeper and a little nicer overall in 2 channel mode. No complaints there. But the way it always wanted to head into surround mode when the input was switched with the HDMI sources was concerning, maybe I'm just a dumbarse but couldn't get a handle on that considering there were no speakers directly connected to it. The hunt for lack of a better term, is on again.

Am I being too picky or something ?

Did you read the manual ? Every input has to be setup individually so when you switch it knows how to process that signal on that particular input. It should not simply go to surround sound unless you didn't designate that input or the unit isn't up to snuff.

Todays surround sound receivers are like processors....worlds apart from your standard 2 channel receivers of yesterday. There's a process involved in setting these up and every brand has their own little twerks on doing it. That's why...you need to read the manual and understand what everything does and how it does it. Once set up though, you won't have to revisit that process unless you change out gear or your system changes or you move it to another room.
