    Default Headphone Connection Advice

Ordered a set of Sennheiser RS180 wireless. Looking for advice on hooking up to the AVR. The unit is analog, no digital connection. I have a Pioneer SC-61, and don't really want the front plate down for hookup, I'd like to use a Zone 2 or 3 in a more permanent connection for the receiver, neither of which is being used right now. Senns come with RCAs for a connection here. New at this type of hookup, obviously. Is this a good idea to start with, and if so, is one zone desirable over the other, and are there any special settings to look for? Ideally, I'd like to be able to use the same source and just switch zones to go from my zone 1 HT set up to zone 2 or 3 for headphones. I have perused the manuals o/l (don't have the headphones yet), which a little vague (for me), so any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks...

Default can use 3.5 to rca adapter

you can use a 3.5 to rca adapter , think one comes with the headphones. just plug 3.5 into base unit and you have your RCA outs. here is a pic of some AudioQuest ones. think there about $60 though.

Thanks....yeah, think it comes with RCAs that plug to the adapter. Thinking this may not work though, mostly I'm playing music via HDMI with the Oppo 103. I think zones 2 and 3 are analog only. I'd have to double connect using analog as well, then switch using the Pioneer remote, wouldn't I? Could be a lot of work, I may be better off using the headphone jack on the Pio, just dislike having the panel open to access the port is all. First world problems :)

I just found a pic of the back of your SC-61 & the adapter cable should work just like you want it to for your zone2 :)

just plug the rca's into your zone 2 pre-outs on back of the SC-61 and you got your sound to the base unit without having to use the phone jack on the front, and then just switch to zone 2 without changing your source. This should work!

ok I think I was wrong as I tried it with my nad AVR without any luck, got no sound then I read this:

    IMPORTANT NOTICE
Only analog audio connected through a Source’s analog audio input port can be associated as audio source for Zone 2. Digital audio sources connected via HDMI, digital optical and digital coaxial input ports cannot be downmixed and used as Zone 2 audio source. Ensure also that the associated Source’s Digital Audio setting is set to “Off” or no actual digital source is connected.

    sorry :(

Yup, that's what I see too. No problem, I'll use the jack in front. Thanks for taking the time to try things out.
