This man likes his job: writing, playing and singing New Orleans flavored blues.

We had a chance to see him live again a week ago at our favorite small venue and consider him one of the top 10 live acts ever for us.

My only knock of this album is the same for every one of his I've heard. It does not capture the marvelous power and dynamics of his very unique voice.

    Martin Scorsese Presents: Jimi Hendrix

From Scorsese's "Blues" mini series. Has some good tracks on it, but it pales in comparison to the Hendrix "Blues" album. Sound quality is consistently good, however. For the Hendrix collector rather then someone just getting into him.

Edit:Last night, running out of interest during the third side, I looked at the fourth side and decided to call it an evening. Listened to side 4 today and was more impressed. Midnight Lightning, the last track of side 4, is Jimi on vocals and guitar with no accompaniment. Great stuff.

Early Jimi Hendrix- Baron lp 105

A live recording of Jimi playing with Curtis Knight in 1965 , recorded at George's Club 20 in Hackensack, NJ. Varying, but generally pretty bad, recording of some of the show stoppers he played when he was still a sideman. It's a shame the recordings especially bad on Driving South, I'm a Man, and ....Killing Floor, when he's really ripping it up.

Heart Like a Wheel- Linda Rondstat

She has one of the most beautiful voices. First side is slower, sadder ballads, well done and delicate. Second side picks up the pace, highlights of the album for me are on it; the sweetest version of the Lowell George song "Willin" you'll ever hear as well as a Hank Williams song called "I Can't Help It If I'm Still In Love WIth You" with Emmy Lou Harris. It's a great recording, even the regular Capitol version I have. I'd love to hear the 220g version.

    Roger Waters
    Amused To Death
They did a wonderful job of recording this album. I am listening to it on my custom monitors. When I first started playing it when the dog barks I heard it coming from the right wall almost ninety degrees from me. The way they recorded this album is really cool. Its like they sent all the cancellation signals to the proper speakers to have an SDA/holography effect. Very nice. Very nice indeed.

Listening to a CD of a band that hasn't played in my rig in a while. I must have misplaced the CD somewhere and ran across it at Manifest last night. Big Head Todd and the Monsters, "Sister Sweetly". Good tunes.

I will be seeing them live at a buddies venue in Charlotte on the 25th. It will be nice to hear his venue's sound system and see them perform. :D
In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence.

The best way to enjoy digital music reproduction is to never listen to good analogue reproduction.
