Default Almost forgot another new arrival...

    Robben Ford - Tiger Walk

Nice set from one of my other favorite, Blues, young guns. As usual with Robben, interesting covers supplement his original material. Difference here vs. other releases I have posted here, is that this time he's all instrumental.

A couple covers are of vocal preformances, e.g., " I Can't Stand the Rain", and he does that thing I hate, namely play the vocal line, but there's enough other good work on these tracks to keep my breakfast down.

    Good stuff...

    Sheryl Crow- Self Titled

10 years later this cd holds up quite well. She has grown as an artist but perhaps has gotten a bit too polished and predictable. This cd is much grittier than anything she's put out recently and that's what makes it so enjoyable.

^ Strong fan off her first couple releases. SC's work on the Tony Bennett CD I posted above up, is the best thing on that CD. Her range and emotion really caught me off-guard.

Good stuff... and love his Concerto for Left Hand. The man got a kick out of torturing pianists.

My Blues bud included this little country gem, from an Austin, Texas group in his last pile of loaners...

Cosmic Dust Devils - Cosmic Dust Devils

I am far from being a country fan, but there's more than enough here to hold my interest. Some cuts get a little bluesy, some get rockabilly-ish, some are funny, some are downright tender.

Apparently, per the pic-link, they are now known simply as The Dust Devils and have had a good bit of national success under the new name.

Donald Fagen - Morph the Cat
    Reprise, 2006

It took a second listen to get me in the mood. But, it's a solid album with plenty for the bass junkies to appreciate. I understand that Walter's new release will feature himself on (at least one) VOCAL!

    Sarah McLachlan - Mirrorball (Live)

I could listen to her any time, any place. I love her voice.

Robinella and the CC Stingband - No Saint No Prize

The second independent realease (2001) of a local band from here in Knoxville. Robinella Contreras has a singularly unique voice that is a cross between Alison Krauss and Dolly Parton. Believe it or not, it is very pleasing. Progressive bluegrass with jazz elements is the best way to describe the music.

Led Zeppelin-Sgt Page's Badgeholders Club Band

3-cd bootleg set of the infamous LA Forum show where Linda Lovelace introduced the band and Keith Moon joined them on stage (w/Bonzo) for Whole Lotta Love. One of the best versions of No Quarter of the tour...perhaps ever, 40 minutes of pure inspirational improvisation. The LA Forum was magical for the mighty Zep. They played 6 nights of over 3 hours each. MAGICAL.

    Bonnie Raitt - Souls Alike

Even with the knowledge going in that this would be a departure from her usual stylings and mix, I found this album a tough listen to enjoy. Her aim is to showcase the songwriting abilities of some (relatively) unknowns, which is a worthy one. But, the arrangements and production are--for the most part--sketchy and flat.

Too bad. She is, and will remain, one of my favorite blues/pop artists. However, her artistry IMHO is not as a producer.

I also love Sarah Mclachlan. My only complaint is that her cd's have the same old songs and there is no new material.

Diana Krall has a very sexy voice.

    U2- Boy
    U2- October

Classic U2 while Bono could still fit his head thru the door. Nothing too impressive since Joshua Tree and some good stuff on Actung Baby. The earlier stuff is pretty edgy (no pun intended) and raw. Some sounds a tad dated, enjoyable nonetheless.

I never liked the Dixie Chicks before the "controversy"...

    But NOW...

    I still don't like them.

Natalie Maines' voice grates on me like fingernails on a chalkboard. This is unusual since I am generally a sucker for a sexy southern female drawl. Anyway I was flipping up the channels the other day and discovered there is a Natalie Maines clone...Miranda Lambert! Sounds just like her...even looks a little like her (maybe a little easer on the eyes). Same irritating, grating twangy voice...just in a better looking package.
