Seether. I learned about this group in some thread here at CP. Reminds me of Pearl Jam, so far. That is a good thing.

    Good Saturday afternoon music lovers!!

I was watching Jay Leno one night last week, and his musical guest for the evening was this young lady from Memphis, Tennessee. I had never heard of her before, but as soon as her and her band starting playing, I was immediately drawn into the music. She has a very unique sound, and her music is a blend of many types of music. She calls it "Organic Moonshine Roots Music"...

From Wikipedia: Valerie June Hockett (born c.1982),[1] known as Valerie June, is an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from Memphis, Tennessee, United States. [2][3] Her sound encompasses a mixture of folk, blues, gospel, soul, country, Appalachian and bluegrass.

I enjoyed the performance a great deal, as it was extremely easy on these 'ol ears and eyes. Anyhow, I was at Best Buy today, and I saw the CD on one of the end caps for only $5.99, and I had to pick it up. Time for a listen...

Red Crayola ~ The Parable of Arable Land

With Roky Erickson leading a gaggle of hippies from the organ, loops of percussion, & Kenny Rogers' brother Leland mixing in their drug party/be-in at the board, Mayo Thompson leads his trio through an ocean of mess, stopping at a few islands for moments of charming, if poorly recorded, garage psych. Thompson's legendarily surreal lyrics (well, except for the 'war sucks' chant) are a little obscured, but it's a damn fine ride.

I love her voice and style Rick; very easy too listen to. She is classified under jazz/pop but has her own way with a song. A very sweet, warm voice, flexible in style. I participated in the Kickstarter for this album of her mentor who passed away in 2010.

I am guessing this album will pop up for sale after the $25 or more funding participants get theirs.

Amazon has samples of her early albums.
