This has been posted before but Chris Rea- "The Road to Hell" this one, specifically after a couple of serious listens, really grows on you.

Default Brenda Russell - Get Here on vinyl

I was in the mood for something a little softer this afternoon.. a few weeks ago I pick up a handful of albums for a buck a piece. All but one was in way above average condition. :D

today I cleaned and placed on the platter along with Joe's The Clamp and starting spinning Brenda Russell - Get Here (A&M records, SP5178)

Exec produced in 1988 by Brenda Russell herself... the album is quite good. Way better than I thought. Sure a few of the songs are dated, but a couple of them really stand out. One in particular is Get Here. Wow, she has a great smooth voice.

I had heard the remake of Get Here from about 1990 by Oleta Adams. and really liked her rendition of the song. But when the last song came on by Brenda who actually wrote the song Get Here, well it was tons better. The album is well recorded and has great clean dynamics. *We are talking vinyl, not CD here. ;)

Anyhoo, it's good.. and for a buck, well you can't really go wrong. I don't know if Russell still puts out music, but this album certainly must have been a highlight in her career.

This LP could be used to test the bass response of any system. "Spirits in a Material World" is deep and growling and the drum shots are startling, awesome, awesome recording.

Is this a Freddie King tribute kind of thing, i.e. covers of his songs? Looks like a photo of Freddie in the background. I'll have to check this one out.

Yes, and yes that is. The title is, of course, borrowed from a Freddie King standard on (IIRC) "Getting Ready".

If you're a Mayall fan, you probably know Freddie is one of John's all-time favorite bluesmen. Every guitar player that stood with the Bluesbreakers over the years had to cover at least one of Freddie's songs to make the cut. The album is about 80% covers. Robben Ford does a guest cut with his own tribute tune "Cannonball Shuffle", which is spectacular.

    Default From the Mold Archives

John Mayall, "Turning Point," LP, restored the vinyl to its former glory but can't read the pressing info, the mold has taken the paper off the spine as well as the label.

    Great live LP.
