Charlotte Martin - On Your Shore
I've talked about her before. Much in the vein of Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Fiona Apple and touch of Sarah McLachlan. She plays piano and has a very beautiful voice. Well worth checking out.
Singer/songwriter Charlotte Martin got her start singing opera while attending Eastern Illinois University in the late '90s. Her father was a respected professor in the music department, and naturally Martin followed his footsteps. She'd been playing piano since she was a little girl and her childhood was surrounded by music. While attending school, Martin experienced "real life," from living with her goth roommate and dealing with typical college-like drama to the tragic suicides of two close friends. Martin turned to music for solace.

I'm not sure why I've never picked up this CD before as I've been searching for better recordings. To tell you the truth, I didn't really know who Dire Straights was and didn't realize I knew half the songs alread.

This 2 CD set rocks! Excellent use of dynamics in the music and excellent preservation of them in the recording. A couple of these tracks are going on my next system showoff disk.
This disk made me keep wanting to turn it up for some reason. The bass is so solid, the guitar so clear and dynamic. and the vocals are tremendous. This is another recording that puts me in a state of disbelief of what the RTi70's can sound like.

Mad Caddies - Keep It Going. A strange mix of reggae, ska, punk, and New Orleans jazz. Absolutely groovin' album.
Also been spinning the Glen Phillips - Abulum DVD-Audio since I got my Onkyo 705. The multichannel PCM on that disc is outstanding!
Little Feat, Waiting for Columbus album, song "Don't bogart that joint". My dad was at that concert in Washington DC. Third row. He said that during that song, so many folks threw joints up on stage that LG picked one up and toked. The band actually took a five minute break to "enjoy" some time, and then resumed the concert.
That song, along with "Apolitical blues" was omitted from the first CD's and cassettes, appearing only on LP until recently [that I know of] on a remastered version of the album which features 10 more songs on top of the original album.

Specifically, track #10: "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve".
I know, I know. It's only September.
A trip down memory lane.... The Cure: Standing on a Beach. Even though it doesn't sound much different then what I remember coming from my boom box when I was 13, it is great to hear again.

The new Kenny Chesney CD is great! I am not a real big country fan, but Kenny has that Jimmy Buffet, let's take a trip to the beach, type appeal.
Spryo Gyra - The Very Best Of
Sweet CD! Very nice recording. Nice complex jazz recording that can really expose weakness/showoff the separation in a system.

Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine
Bookended by lush, vaudeville-like tunes created with Apple's longtime collaborator Jon Brion, EXTRAORDINARY MACHINE features production work by Mike Elizondo (50 Cent, Eminem) on all other tracks. Those expecting any hip-hop flourishes will be left empty-handed; this disc presents Apple working in her signature style, with her soulful, slightly mischievous voice carrying these confident, primarily piano-driven songs. The performer's penchant for confessional, witty lyrics is still apparent, but her approach is notably more subtle and mature here. While many tracks are gilded with adventurous arrangements that incorporate an arsenal of organs (Farfisa, Optigan, etc.), marimba, Moog bass, and other unusual instrumentation, Apple also shines when left to her own devices, as on the spare, melancholy ballad "Parting Gift." Listeners worried that the lengthy hiatus might have diluted Apple's potent, inventive aesthetic can sleep well; EXTRAORDINARY MACHINE more than lives up to the superlative in its title.

Leaked copy from the internet![]()
So far just a 320k kbps leaked copy, which sounds pretty good on the computer rig. I've had it for a couple weeks now and really have only just started listening to it.
They have taken some old standby's and given it the duet treatment with a competent backing band. All-in-all pretty mellow and it definetly has a country flare. Good low key music which isn't overly inspiring but certainly if in the right mood is a pleasure to listen to.
