Picked up a halfway decent copy of the 1812 Overture on Friday. Living Stereo LSC 2345 with Bolero on the flip side, cleaned it up and threw it on the table on Saturday. I think this is the first time I've heard the entire 1812 Overture, obviously heard the cannon parts a bunch during fireworks, etc. Very impressed with the soundstage, I'd say it's definitely the widest I've heard in my system, the height is there as well. I can also place the instruments very well within the soundstage. Not very impressive was the cannon shots, sounded like they played them through a tape deck into the concert hall.

Daryl Hall and John Oates - Bigger Than Both of Us

I believe this was the first LP I ever acquired by the duo, and it's still my favorite.

Dig it out, Steve. It's definitely worth a spin.
Carrying on with:
Daryl Hall and John Oates - Voices
1980, RCA AQL1-3646, LP
Side B is dy-no-mite! Most excellent cover of "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" (I still can't believe that whack job Phil Spector had a hand in that tune), "You Make My Dreams Come True", and the pre-Paul Carrack cover rendition of "Everytime You Go Away" (penned by Daryl.)

Diskreetse Mango Trio........this band is so odd I can't stop listening. And despite having "trio" in their name, there are like 50 people in this band.
Still, its a weird/interesting change of pace....

Wax Fang - La La Land
Released November 17th, 2007 on Don't Panic! Records.
Fantastic and extremely talented band from Lousiville, KY. This is definitely for the types who think there isn't any good music being made these days. Found out about this band last November at a My Morning Jacket show here in town.
http://www.myspace.com/waxfang to sample a few tracks...
Their old CD, Black & Endless Night, or their new one, La La Land, would both be equally good to start off with.

"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche
If memory serves BMDP, this had a better sound with the Waiting for Columbus album....which is actually what I am listening to, AGAIN :D. I have gotten my throat raw trying to sing along at performance levels to this song. No, I will not provide a U-tube of me singing to it. ;)
I'm listening to the song "Dixie Chicken" right now, so that song won't bee too far away. Crap, who am I foolin'? That's on disc two. I'll catch up to ya' here in an hour or so..... ;)
I think I have that particular LP in my collection so I'll have to give that version a whirl when I have the time. Good tunes man, good tunes! :D
In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence.
"The best way to enjoy digital music reproduction is to never listen to good analogue reproduction". - Kenneth Swauger
Miles Davis - Freddie Freeloader. Great SDA track - there are instruments coming out of my walls!
