So the RTA 11t is the same as the monitor 11t, just the RTA is older?

My minty RTA 11Ts are badged Monitor 11T, not to be confused with the Monitor 11 (a rare bird). The RTA 11Ts and the Monitor 11Ts are identical, as far as I know. I don't know if one is consistently older than the other. The drivers in mine were stamped in 1990. They are truly a very nice sounding speaker. I don't know if I'd put them above my Monitor 10Bs (with most all suggested mods, less those of updating the crossovers), but the 10Bs were my first Polks and my first "real" speakers so I may be a bit biased there, for sentimental reasons. The 11Ts are currently stock.

$500? That's what heavily modded pairs go for. Apparently those familiar with Polk don't know what they're worth.

The 11s are your best bet. They're great speakers. You need to get your eyes and ears on them though

These popped up today but way overpriced considering the cabinets look like hell. Do these have the kind of wood you could refinish?

Also how do you know they are B's?

More then likely B's. They have the SL2000 tweeter. They do look rough. You would probably want to upgrade the tweeters to RDO-194's at $100, rebuild the crossovers for approx $200, various other mods for approx $50, and re-veneer the cabinets for approx another $50 - $100. If price is no object and you want a project, go for it. !0's are nice speakers......just depends on what you want.

The problem is with those investment numbers, you might as well wait for a better speaker. No offense to the 10's, but I'd rather invest that in a pair of SDA's or RTA's than the 10's. Besides, if you do the work yourself, shouldn't you be able to recap those crossovers for less than $200? Aren't they a rather simple design?

The 10s and RTAs use more caps than a typical Monitor. Price would also be dependent on the quality of the caps used. I too would rather go with the RTAs than the 10s, or wait for a decent set of SDAs.

Well I hope you get a chance to look them over. They're wonderful speakers once all the upgrades are done, and they present a more modern, narrow front. They dig deep too.

You're probably going to have to redo that bad repair to the cabinet if you get them. It looks like the damage might have broken the seal.

If it is broken, you need to do a proper repair of the cabinet and then probably reseal it from the inside. You can remove the top driver to get to it. I've done it to two speakers already, so it can't be that difficult.

Getting a proper seal in that cabinet though is going to be vital to its performance.

    Redoing his repair...

Judging by the way he did it, there is no guarantee that you have a good seal. He just threw a glob of glue on it and stuck the piece down. It looks like it didn't snap all the way off, but it definitely wasn't fixed up to snuff.
