    Lightbulb Inquiring minds wanna know?

You know, I like to think we are somewhat of a cadre in here. But I have some questions:

1 -What do you do for a day job? Like your REAL 9-5.

2 -Do you get a sense of satisfaction from it?

I am a pipefitter working out of the UA Local 322. I have been in the construction industry in some form or another for around twenty years now, and I DO get off on building ****.
I smell ass, burning ass, glowing cherry red spanked ass.

I work for the local school system, unpaid. My Job? To sleep in class and make teachers yell. My objective? To pass.

My other job? I build houses, detail cars, webdesign, paint (houses), mow, (possibly may start cleaning carpets), computer work, repair (semi)

Do I like doing my job? YES! I LOVE BUILDING HOUSES. I do indeed love building houses, fences, I like designing websites, and detailing cars! Painting houses, that is fun as well!

Before too long I will be a pharmacist. I have no idea where I will be after I graduate. I am thinking about geriatric/nursing home pharmacy. Other possibilities for me are going onto grad school to get a PhD in pharmacokinetics, clincal research or some other clinical position in oncology or pain management.

I am a overtime whore, and I like it. The job is cool, some great days, some corporate days. I enjoyed things much better when we were small, and the technology was brand new.

I can't talk much about what I do.

Is it fulfilling? Yes and no. No because of all the asshats I have to deal with who think that IT is a profession very low below them. Yes it is fulfilling because of what I work with and directly support. I can't talk about it now but basically, what is old-hat technology to us now will be brand spankin' new in the private/civillian sector 20-30 years from now. We are building the future and making history all in the name of national defense.

All I can really say is that I get paid to take trips to exotic locals and fire missles and rockets and blow lotsa cool stuff up! We build radar and weapons guidance systems. Best in the business.

During the weekdays, I'm at school now doing my second year of Electrical Engineering. On Fri, Sat and Sun I work nights at a restaurant. With my time off after work, I like to puff the magic dragon:D.

I support a stock trading system (Sybase database) by day, and sell Polk speakers by night (CC).

My day job is not fullfilling at all. However, spending my paycheck is fullfilling.

I actually like working at CC. I enjoy selling stereo stuff to people who can afford Onkyo and Polk. I don't enjoy selling $99 HTIB's.

I would much rather own a stereo or computer store and work for myself.

    Regards,

I was an apprentice mechanic and have been working at high end auto dealers for about two years, quit last week. The work is too hard and the tools are too expensive to be only making 9 friggin CDN dollars! Thats like 6 yankee bucks! I couldn't support my HT addiction on that money. I'm going back to school, probably mechanical engineering.

I run my own antique furniture restoration business and I love it! I like working with wood and I like antiques, it gives me tremendous satisfaction to bring a piece back to life again and to see the smiles on my clients faces. Their checks always put a smile on my face. :D

I'm an aircraft mechanic, working on Air Force jets as a civilian. We work on the T-37, T-38, and T-1 aircraft. This is a very small base, but a good % of the Air Force pilots train here.
I enjoy my job, usually, but I will enjoy it more when another company takes over the contract here; that is, if we don't get shut down in the next round of base closures.

I'm an electrical engineer working on embedded systems software. I work on DVD players (YEAH!) for the auto industry( BOOOO!). Its a great job when I get to make stuff work like pushing play and watching the drive spin up and start playing. Its a horrible job when you deal with customers who have no idea what they are doing and completely ruin a nice DVD player by making it as complicated and un user friendly as humanly possible.

I am a purchasing Manager for a construction supply store. It's my job to beat up the big boys and their pricing so that you guys can purchase that precious Dewalt drill or the finger eating Delta unisaw at a fair price.
Our main client base of course is the concrete guys...local DOT and road crews.
Do I enjoy it? Most times I would have to admit, it's more stressfull spending the company's money than spending my own. But hey, the paycheck keeps me going back everyday....and keeps my out of the sheep fields.

I hit pawn shops, thrift stores and estate sales. Sometimes I'll try and sneak in a $4.99 Chinese Buffet to break it up a bit.

Other than that, lets just say I'm in 'Real Estate'.

On a more serious note, I'm headed back to school soon, medical school.

    Cheers,

I'm a Sr. AutoCAD Engineer for the past 10 years. I design government buildings along with 3D renderings which are then converted to virtual fly throughs using a program call 3D Studio so this way then can see and walk through the building before its even built. They can take a virtual tour then give me input on what walls they want to move, put a window here, and yes, I can give them lighting effects during certain times of the day so they know if they really need a window there or not. So, I guess in all aspects, you could call me a designer also. Do I like my job, wouldn't trade it for the world. Pretty much make my own hours, every government holiday off and then some and the money is outstanding.

I am an instructor with the Federal Aviation Administration Academy, I train all the technicians how to be instructors in the field and at our academy. I am a retired Naval Officer. I enjoy teaching but could do without all the bureaucratic BS from folks who were such good technicians that they made them managers!

Sr Systems Administrator for a large healthcare provider in the people's republic of california. We support over 300 Sun servers which is fun. Our IT, not so fun nor filling. They recenlty put up signs telling IT people how to lock their NT workstations. Be afraid who's really in IT. Luckily I use a Sun workstation, ctrl+alt+del means nothing to me.

I'm a water treatment plant manager for the City of Paris, AR. Our plant is large for a community of this size because we sell water to so many surrounding communities. The job itself is not bad, but the pay leaves a lot to be desired. I could get a better paying job, but probably not here. And this is where I want to be.
