SVS and Polk SOUND GREAT but.......

First I want to thank everyone who posted help for me when choosing the new speaker system I have....

Next: DVDV, SACD, DVDA, MP3 sound fantastic but my older (purchased in the 80's) CD's seem to have hit what I can only describe as a "High Frequency Ceiling" (Tick, Tick, Tick) I suppose it is because the new speakers can "See" more than the last setup I had could (BOSE). Is there anything I can do for this?

Sleepy,The only answer I can come up with is in the form of a question...How did you come up with the SVS sooo quickly? I ordered a PC series over a week ago,and no confirmation yet...Their site shows shipping in 7-12 business days,which could be close to 3 calender weeks...

Are you saying that there is a repeating artifact that sounds like a 'tick'? If so, what is the frequency?

I have no idea the freq. but it almost sounds like a crackling noise in the tweeter, I have the Treble turned down as far as it will go but, it still occurs. and is only with older cd's the player is feeding the reciever via Optical link. All multi channel and DVD play 2 channel is fine. Sorry this is about all I can tell ya.

Mike I ordered the sub on monday and received it on friday of the same week. The only reason I can think of is maybe because I live about 150 miles from the factory......

Pretty sure Cer was going for the "ticking" heard when a CDP isn't getting enough info to error correct. Sure he'd agree that's not it..

Have you tried your CDP's analog outputs?

yeah, sorry for the misleading post, I was inquiring as to how often the ticking repeated itself, not what tone it was making exactly.
Is the ticking periodic (perhaps associated with the spinning disc), or does it depend on what the music is doing?

I finally got my SvS, but it took 15 days. Setting it up as we speak. :D I dont know how yours got to your house in only 5 days. What type of sub was it, maybe only some of them were on backorder like mine was. oh well just thought id put this message in there, good luck fixing your ticking noise. :(

Could be your CDP's DAC is better or simply produces a signal that fits your ear better than your AVR.

Some here also believe the conversion to and from a light signal is an unneeded complication of the siganl path...

I take it the irritating noise has ceased?
