    Default Is this wire good?

Home depot has 12 gauge stranded speaker wire for $63. It's a spool of 250 feet. Way to much wire, but I'm sure I can find use or give some to friends when they need. Will this wire be good enough to hook up my Yamaha rx-v1400 to my Polk's?

    Thanks,
    Stef

Their wire should work out fine, I've used it and have no complaints. Alot cheaper than Monster stuff. But you shouldn't need to buy the whole spool, they sell it by the foot at most Home Depots. Give yourself about 5' extra per run so you can experiment with speaker placement if you haven't already done so. Once you've got 'em where you want 'em you can always trim off the extra leaving a couple extra feet just in case. It's alot easier and better than splicing on a foot or two if your too short. My wife thinks I'm nuts but I retrim the ends that have been exposed to the air once a year.
Have you looked at Sound King wire from www.partsexpress.com? Try part #100-155, it's only 100 feet but it might just be enough for you.

12 guage will do the job with no problems. Buy the 12 guage by the foot and all will be good. I also agree at trimming the ends because you eliminate any oxididation on the tips.

    Default Great

Have a 1400 as well. I run 12AWG to the rears and backs. Terminate them with a nice pin or banana, and you're set. You won't be sorry.

Also don't touch your fingers to the exposed copper. I also bought that exact wire and am waiting for my terminators to get here.

buy a bottel of acitone(finger nail polish remover) to remove any oils from the wire. I use the Bannanas from RS and the seem to do just fine. I need to tear my system down and do a complete cleaning... I think its been almost a year since the last. ****e time does fly!

or you could buy acetone... ;)

Bought a 500' spool of HD wire myself... and had to go back for more. I think it's a good place to start.

You probably know this but when you do trim the ends make sure you don't:

    1) Have the receiver on

    2) Trim the wire if they're plugged in to the receiver.

... I learned the hard way when I was a teenager with my NAD receiver.
